Troops Sack IPOB/ESN Enclave, Capture Fighter, Fire Arms
In a sustained effort to rid Nigeria of criminality, troops of 63 Bde Garrison under the auspices of 6 Division, Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services, have in an ongoing Clearance Operation, destroyed an enclave of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN) at Asaba, Delta State, at the weekend
According to a statement by Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the troops conducted a raid operation on the fortified enclave located in the middle of a forested High ground in the early hours of the day.
The gallant troops overpowered the IPOB fighters in the exchange of fire that followed the encounter, compelling them to abandon their hideout in disarray.
The troops captured one of the fleeing fighters and recovered five AK 47 Rifles, three Pump Action Semi Automatic Rifles, one G3 Rifle and one single-barrel gun. Other items recovered, include Live Cartridges, Electric Saw, Machetes, an Axe and IPOB flag.
The troops have destroyed the enclave and are exploiting the forest in pursuit of the fleeing fighters.
The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja has commended the troops and other security agencies for their effort in the ongoing operations and has charged them to sustain the momentum to restore sanity in the region.
82 Division GOC Charges Troops To Remain Physically And Mentally Alert
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Nigerian Army Major General Hassan Taiwo Dada has charged graduates of Second Quarter Basic Battle Course 5 of 2023 to be physically and mentally alert in dealing with all forms of criminality bedeviling the country. The GOC gave the charge during the graduation ceremony of course at 82 Division Training School training area Abakpa Cantonment Enugu.
In his remarks, the GOC noted that the course has developed their individual physical fitness as well as team spirit. General Dada revealed that the endurance and mental alertness achieved during the course will enable them to withstand extreme weather, hunger fatigue and sleep deprivation which are normal experiences in battle.
The GOC expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff Major General Taoreed Lagbaja for his unflinching support to the Division and for making available resources for the course. He further commended the Division Training Officer (DTO) and instructors of 82 Division Training School for their commitment in ensuring the successful conduct of the course.
Earlier in his welcome address, the DTO Brigadier General Okhume Ejere appreciated the GOC for his support to make the course successful. The DTO noted that the course was aimed at exposing soldiers to realistic training and to develop their individual abilities and encourage team spirit.
He further stated that the students were tutored on Counter Insurgency Operations, Field Training, Counter Improvised Explosive Devices training, Tactical drills, Weapon Handling amongst others.
The DTO also commended the instructors and the good conduct displayed by the students during their training period and urged them to be good ambassadors of the school and the Nigeria Army in their future engagements.
Highlights of the graduation ceremony were the demonstration of tactical field exercises, presentation of certificates and group photograph.
