Super Eagle Job: Finidi Names Amokachi, Baruwa, Two Foreigners As Assistants

Finidi George, the new Super Eagles manager, has named former national team mate, Daniel Amokachi, Olatunji Baruwa and two yet-to-be made known foreigners as his back room assistants.

According to independent.ng, the former national team winger revealed this during his unveiling by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday in a short ceremony that took place in Abuja.

The names of the two foreign assistants will be announced before the Super Eagles play their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures against South Africa and Benin Republic.

Amokachi is returning to familiar terrain having worked as an assistant to late coaches, Shaibu Amodu and Stephen Keshi, in the past. Finidi has also retained Olatunji Baruwa, the goalkeeper’s trainer under the previous head coach, Jose Peseiro.

In order to focus on his new role, the 53-year-old formally resigned from his position as head coach of NPFL champions Enyimba on Sunday.

His first official game in charge of the Super Eagles will be the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Friday, June 7.
