Rotary Club of Akowonjo Elects Rotarian John Odiboh as First President Nominee Designate

The Rotary Club of Akowonjo has elected its first President Nominee Designate (PND), Rotarian John Odiboh to lead the club in the 2027/2028 Rotary Year.
The significance of this election is the club’s alignment with the Rotary tradition at the district level where at any point in time leaders are already determined and known for four straight years.
In a keenly contested first hybrid voting into elective offices in the club, Rotarian John Odiboh, a veteran Journalist, a Public Relations practitioner, Logistician and Executive Master Compere, emerged winner as President Nominee Designate (PND), to lead the 39 years old club as its 42nd President in the 2027/2028 Rotary year.
The over fifty-member club will be marking its 40th anniversary come February 21, 2025.
The hybrid elections saw the online voting commencing at 4:00PM as announced by the Election Committee Chairperson, Immediate Past President (IPP), Rotarian (Dr.) Esther Olasunkanmi Amoye with the in-person, collation and declaration of results taking place at the Lagos Airport Hotel, venue of the club’s weekly fellowship on Monday December 9, 2024.
The emergence of Rotarian John Odiboh is a culmination of his service to humanity which started with the Rotary Club of Akowonjo which he joined in 2017 immediately becomingthe club’s Editor-in-Chief of The Achievers’ Bulletin and Assistant Secretary, serving passionately in the absence of the club’s secretary for the whole year.
His passion for service, endeared him to the club where he later became Club Secretary in 2018/2019, Chairman, District Governor’s Visit Committee and Editor-in-Chief, The Achievers’ Bulletin and Magazine.
The now President Nominee Designate (PDN), Rotarian John Odiboh was in the 2019/2020 Rotary Year, Chairman, Public Image Committee and Editor-in-Chief, The Achievers’ Bulletin. In 2020/2021, he was Chairman, Vocational Service Committee. In 2021/2022, he was Chairman Public Image Committee and in 2022/2023 he was Editorial Adviser, The Achievers’ Bulletin.
Also in 2023/2024, he became Chairman, We Care Committee and Editorial Adviser, The Achievers’ Bulletin. He is presently the 2024/2025 Chairman, History & Archives Committeeand the Editorial Adviser, The Achievers’ Bulletin, having served as member of Sundry Committees since 2017 till date.
At the Rotary International District level, Rotarian John Odiboh who is a Level 3 Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) graduate, has also served in as Secretary, District 9110 Humanitarian Reporting Awards Committee for 2023/2024.
In the present 2024/2025 Rotary year, Rotarian John Odiboh has served and still serving in various capacities in District 9111 as Assistant Chairman, District Training Assembly (DTA) Programmes & Publicity Sub-Committee; Faculty Member/Facilitator, Irresistible Virtual Learning Series (IVLS); Anchor, District Governor Speaks (an online interactive audience participation programme, Secretary, D9111 Sickle Cell Disease Centre Building Committee;Secretary, Public Image Committee; Assistant District Secretary (ADS) with six Rotary clubs under his supervision. He has already been appointed as Secretary, 2025/2026 District Governor’s Installation Committee.
He has compered very important events at the district level including the very recent, First Christmas Festival of Carols and Lessons for District 9111. Others include, D9111 Public Image Seminar: 2024/2025 and District 9110 Humanitarian Awards: 2023/2024.
Speaking with us, Rotarian John Odiboh stated that his job has already been cut out for him as the President Nominee Designate which is significantly to make all the presidents before him succeed during their year in office, a role he said he has been performing since he joined the club.
However, on his plan for his year, Rotarian Odiboh noted that it is still early in the day but added that, his driving philosophy and vision statement is “DO More” noting that he was going to improve on all the laudable projects, procedures and processes that could have been established by his predecessors.
