In recognition of its steeling performance and professionalism in the Nigerian banking industry, the Bank has been named the ‘Best Commercial Bank in Nigeria’ in the World Finance Banking Awards 2021 recently.

In a statement titled “Zenith Bank maintains dominance, emerges best commercial bank in Nigeria,” the Bank said the award, which was announced in the July 2021 edition of the World Finance Magazine, was based on individual banks’ ability to adapt to a continually evolving technological environment, while maintaining top-class customer relations and bolstering their financial footing amidst the upheaval of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Commenting on the award, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive, Zenith Bank, Mr Ebenezer Onyeagwu, said, “This recognition reflects our resilience and ability to adapt to a very challenging macroeconomic environment exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as our commitment to creating value for our teeming customers through our best-in-class service and innovative products and solutions.”

He expressed his gratitude to the bank’s customers for making Zenith Bank their preferred financial institution, saying this culminated in the award.

The statement said, “World Finance is a leading international magazine providing comprehensive coverage and analysis of the financial industry, international business and the global economy.

“The editorial combines award-winning reportage, covering a broad range of topics from banking and insurance to wealth management and infrastructure investment, with contributions from some of the world’s most well-respected economists and theorists as well as consultants in government think tanks and the World Economic Forum.”

The Bank also was recently ranked as the ‘Number One Bank in Nigeria by Tier-1 Capital’ in the 2021 Top 1,000 World Banks Ranking published by The Banker Magazine.

The bank disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement titled ‘Zenith Bank Retains position as Nigeria’s Number One Tier-1 Bank’.

The statement said for the third consecutive year, the bank retained its position as the number-one Tier-1 bank in Nigeria with a Tier-1 capital of $2.64bn, emerging as the 454th bank globally and the only Nigerian bank in the top 500.

It said, “The ranking, which was published in the July 2021 edition of The Banker Magazine of the Financial Times Group, United Kingdom, was based on the 2020 year-end Tier-1 capital of banks globally.

“Zenith Bank’s financial performance for the year was underpinned by an eight per cent growth in non-interest income, with an improved market share in both retail and corporate sectors despite a very challenging macroeconomic environment exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Speaking on the ranking, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mr Ebenezer Onyeagwu, said, “This ranking is a demonstration of our resilience and doggedness as an institution given the very challenging macroeconomic environment brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, which had a significant deleterious impact on businesses globally.

“It is also an affirmation of our commitment to delighting and creating value for our customers through a broad range of superior product offerings, best-in-class service and top-of-the-range technology.”

Zenith Bank Plc says it has been recognised by the Ethical Boardroom for the second consecutive year for its adherence to global best practices and institutionalisation of corporate governance.

The bank said this on Wednesday in a statement titled ‘Zenith Bank named Best Corporate Governance ‘Financial Services’ in Africa 2021’.

It stated that the award, which was published in the June 2021 edition of The Ethical Boardroom magazine, was in recognition of the bank’s adherence to global best practices and institutionalisation of corporate governance, setting an industry-wide example of best practices in that field.

Commenting on the award, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive of Zenith Bank, Mr Ebenezer Onyeagwu, said, “This recognition is a testament to our commitment to quality, accountability, fairness and transparency in our engagement with all stakeholders.”

This award came after several awards and recognitions that had come the way of bank in recent times for its track record of excellent performance and commitment to global best practices, according to the statement.

It said, “Zenith Bank was voted as Bank of the Year (Nigeria) in The Banker’s Bank of the Year Awards 2020; Best Bank in Nigeria in the Global Finance World’s Best Banks Awards 2020 and 2021; and Best Corporate Governance ‘Financial Services’ Africa 2020 by the Ethical Boardroom.

“Also, the bank emerged as the Most Valuable Banking Brand in Nigeria in the Banker Magazine Top 500 Banking Brands 2020 and 2021; and number one bank in Nigeria by Tier-1 Capital in the ‘2020 Top 1000 World Banks’ Ranking by The Banker Magazine.

“Similarly, the bank was recognised as Bank of the Decade (People’s Choice) at the ThisDay Awards 2020, Retail Bank of the year at the 2020 BusinessDay Banks and Other Financial Institutions (BOFI) Awards, and Best Company in Promotion of Good Health and Well-Being as well as Best Company in Promotion of Gender Equality and Women Empowerment at the Sustainability, Enterprise and Responsibility Awards 2020.”
