Railway: Abuja-Kaduna route gets 10 more coaches
Following the spate of insecurity along the Abuja to Kaduna way, the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi has revealed that the new additional coaches proposed for passengers plying the route by railway has just arrived Nigeria .
The minister assured that before the end of February or first week in March, 2020 the coaches would have reached their destinations.
Amaechi told newsmen at the weekend
that though the challenge they are having is transporting the coaches to the various destinations .
The minister also said they included 2 additional locomotive (diesel motorcars unit) and eight coaches, which is 10 for Lagos and 10 for Abuja.
On the Port Harcourt to Maiduguri railway project, their minister said the President Buhari has given approval earlier for the construction of the standard gauge and the seaport in Bonni and Port Harcourt industrial park.
“If we start pursuing the money to construct Port Harcourt to Maiduguri now in case of loan, we may not get the loan easily.
“The President is a bit more determined that we construct a standard gauge, but if we continue to wait, we may not get the funds to construct the standard gauge now.
“ I am not saying we are not going to get it but when you see how long it took us to get 5.3 billion for Ibadan to Kano, which took us more than three years and you are asking for 12 billion dollars loan, it won’t be that easy.
