PTAD Pays over N20bn to verified Pensioners
Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has added 717 pensioners of Federal Housing Authority (FHA) and Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA, Civilian) to the payroll to receive regular monthly pension payment and have been paid their April 2018 monthly pensions.
With the new addition, the number of verified pensioners between January and April, 2018 has risen to 8,686 while the amount paid so far has also risen to over N20 billion.
A total of N1,940,511.63 was paid to 717 pensioners of Federal Housing Authority (FHA) and those of Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA, Civilian).
The breakdown of the payments show that a total of N11, 954,362.31 was paid to 639 pensioners of FHA while the 78 Pensioners from Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA ,Civilian) pensioners were paid a total of N1, 940,511.63.
This new batch of enrollees were verified by the Directorate during a validation exercise which was held across the country’s Six (6) geopolitical zones in Q4 2017 towards sustaining a comprehensive and credible database of pensioners domiciled at the directorate.
It will be recalled that the Executive Secretary, Sharon Ikeazor had assured pensioners that their entitlements will be computed and they would be enrolled to receive monthly pension payments even as approval is been sought to clear all arrears for pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).
The Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD) started verification of defunct and privatised agencies in Q4 2017, with the verification of Federal Housing Authority (FHA), New Nigerian Newspapers (NNN), NICON, Nigerian-Re and Delta Steel Company (DSC) pensioners across the country. In Q1 2018, pensioners from the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited, NITEL and its subsidiary, Mobile Telecommunications Limited, MTEL, were verified and the computation of their benefits is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Directorate has, as at March 2018, added 7,969 Civil Service Pensioners to its payroll to receive regular monthly pension payments. These Pensioners were verified in the South West & North Central in Q4 2017.
The addition of this group has improved the economic livelihood of pensioners who have been deprived of their rights for a long period. Thus, further supporting the role of PTAD in making sure the labors of our heroes is not in vain. Before this addition, over 19,500 verified Civil Service pensioners from the North West, South East, North East and South South had been reinstated and paid their arrears.
Also ongoing is the computation of benefits for over 5,000 verified Civil Service Pensioners. This will conclude the payrolling of all verified Civil Service Pensioners
In January 2018, the Civil Service Pension Department (CSPD) paid N2.215bn to 111,525 pensioners, 219 Retired Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Service. For the month of February, N2.216bn was paid and in March, N2.216bn was paid to pensioners, Retired Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Service.
For the Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD) which started verification of defunct and privatised agencies in Q4 2017, 98,259 pensioners were paid monthly pension of N4.097bn in January 2018. For the month of February, N4.134bn was paid to the pensioners while N4.117bn was paid in March.
For Pensioners verified in Q4 2017 & Q1 2018 under the Parastatal Pension Department (Federal Housing Authority, New Nigerian Newspaper, NICON, Nigerian-Re, Delta Steel Company & NITEL/Mtel) the accurate computation of their benefits is currently being made.
Over 30,000 pensioners under the defined benefit scheme who were yet to be pay rolled over the years have been cleared and added to PTAD payroll post verification of Civil Service, Police, Customs, Immigration and Prisons Pensioners across the country.
