President Tinubu lauds D’Tigress on Olympic historic quarter-finals
President Bola Tinubu has commended Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for qualifying for the quarter-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The fear marks the first time an African team will reached quarter-finals stage in Olympic basketball history.
Tinubu in a statement released by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale on Sunday evening, congratulated the team on their historic achievement and victory against Canada in their final group game.
Tinubu according to Ngelale praised the team’s resilience, skill, and dedication, which have brought pride and joy to the nation.
The statement reads, “President Bola Tinubu warmly congratulates Nigeria’s D’Tigress on qualifying for the quarter-final of the women’s basketball at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“D’Tigress will be the first African team in basketball to play in the quarter-finals at the Olympics.
“The President commends the team for their uncommon demonstration of resilience, teamwork, and diligence. President Tinubu also commends the coach and managers of the team for their dutifulness and dedication. The President enjoins the brave Tigress not to rest on their oars until the final victory is won.”
The president assured the team of the government’s continued support as they aim to make further progress in the tournament.
“President Tinubu assures the team and the entire Nigerian contingent at the 2024 Olympics of his support as they fly the nation’s flag at the global sports event,” the statement added.
However, Dailyeconomy on Monday, July 22, reported that Tinubu congratulated Nigerian artist, Dr Fola David for setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest painting by an individual.
