Nigerian Actuarial Society Elects Adebowale Adesona as Council Member
Foremost Actuary and Insurance Expert, Adebowale Adesona, has been elected as a Council Member of the Nigerian Actuarial Society.
Adesona, who is the Managing Director of Coronation Life Assurance Limited was recently elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Society.
In his new role, Adebowale has pledged to leverage his expertise, experience, and network to drive growth, innovation, and excellence within the actuarial community.
His focus will be on fostering collaboration, inclusivity, professional development and capacity building. Additionally, he aims to enhance actuarial involvement in policy-making, promote industry engagement as well as community outreach and social responsibility.
With an illustrious career spanning over 19 years in the insurance industry, Adesona has distinguished himself through outstanding leadership, innovative strategies, and a steadfast commitment to excellence. His expertise in product underwriting, reinsurance, business strategy, process automation, actuarial practice and asset-liability management has propelled Coronation Life Assurance to new heights.
Since taking the helm at Coronation Life Assurance in 2023, Adesona has driven remarkable growth. Under his leadership, the company’s Gross Written Premium (GWP) has reflected an impressive growth of over 80%.
Similarly, its Profit Before Tax (PBT) surged, marking an exceptional growth of over 400%, reinforcing its position as a leading player in the life insurance sector. His strategic approach has also resulted in the expansion of the retail business and development of customer-focused products to meet the diverse needs of Nigerian families.
An accomplished actuary and a forward-thinking leader, Adebowale has been instrumental in advancing regulatory frameworks, including the successful implementation of the Insurance Accounting Standard (IFRS 17) in Nigeria. His career includes impactful roles at industry giants including AXA Mansard, Wapic, Old Mutual Nigeria, and PwC Nigeria, consistently championing innovation and transformation.
Speaking shortly after the election, Mr. Adesona expressed his gratitude to the members of the society, affirming his readiness to live to the expectation of his new role.

He holds dual Master’s degrees in Actuarial Science and Actuarial Management—both earned with distinction—from Heriot-Watt University. He is a qualified actuary with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK) and an Oracle Certified Associate.
