NECO Registers 1.2m Candidates For 2023 Examinations
The Register, National Examination Council (NECO), Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, has said that the council registered more than N1.2m candidates for the 2023 examination nationwide.
He said the council has recorded the most successful processes in the conduct of examinations, with all materials arriving at examination centres in time.
According to the blueprint.ng, Wushishi made the statement in Jos while on an inspection visit to some examination centres.
“This year we have registered 1,205,888 candidates as against 1,209, 000, plus thousand. And so there was a slide drop of what we registered last year,” he said.
He 631,074 candidates are males whereas; 558,814 are females.
He cited economic hardship on parents, as well as some strict measures put in place by the Council as some of the myriad of factors as reasons for the slight drop in number of candidates for the 2023 examinations.
“Economic situation in the country make some parents that have children in private schools, may be were not able to registered more candidates,” he said.
Wushishi they have visited North Western states and some others in the North east, and now Plateau state in the North central.
He said they have successfully assessed situations from the stakeholders they engaged during the visits.
“From our end the delivery of materials was very fantastic, intact this year’s examination from assessment is the most successful compared to previous years,” he said.
Prof. Wushishi said states government owing the council have been gradually responding positively in terms of debts payment.
“Last it was closed to N3bn, some states are they still registered new students, they are also remitting parts of their previous debts,” he said.
