NCRIB President Harps on Imperative of Insurance to Fire Disaster
The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), the umbrella body of all Insurance Brokers in Nigeria has enjoined government at all levels to embrace insurance as a risk management mechanism as well as a desirable financial prudential strategy for preservation of human and material wealth.
The NCRIB President, Mr. Shola Tinubu, who was a special guest on Radio One 103.5FM, Lagos recently, appealed to State Government to give insurance its relevant place for the growth of the nation’s economy.
NCRIB President who was speaking on the topic: “Imperative of Insurance Cover against Fire Disaster,” condemned the rate of fire disasters in Nigeria while appealing to relevant authorities to embark on mass awareness campaign to safeguard lives and properties of Nigerian.
According to him, it is important that Nigerians are aware of the fact that risks are inevitable, but he stressed that the best way out of any unfortunate incidence is to embrace insurance as risk mitigation mechanism.
Speaking further, Mr. Tunubu explained that it is expedient for government to embrace insurance and also encourage its citizens to key into it by encouraging them to insure their valuables, stressing that it is only insurance that could replace all lost items when there is catastrophe.
“It is most apposite to note that the need for insurance brokers in the insurance value chain has been necessitated by the complexity of insurance operations. For clients, be they individual or corporate, to fully maximize insurance benefits, they have to engage the services of insurance brokers. These professionals are equipped with the know-how to advise their clients on the best possible rates and assist them in facilitating their receipt of claims when a loss arises. They also render continuous personalized services to clients,” he added.
NCRIB boss said every building and all properties should be adequately covered against fire disaster, including market places, public facilities, schools and garages, stating that it is the responsibility of both the Government and Insurance Industry to create more awareness.
Tinubu said that some events unfolding around the country in recent times have further necessitated the call for government to join the industry in enforcing all the compulsory insurances and encourage more citizens to get insurance cover for all their valuables.
He emphasized that only registered insurance brokers under the aegis of Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) could be trusted with insurance policy undertakings, stressing that the NCRIB has remained the league of reputable and ethical insurance broking professionals empowered to deliver valued insurance services to their clients.
