NAICOM Hosts Insurance Journalists to unveil Strategic Plans
National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) at her 2021 Media Retreat for Insurance journalists which commenced in Lagos yesterday unfolded plans and agenda for journalists for the two days event.
Speaking at the arrival dinner held at Oriental Hotel, Epe Expressway, Victoria Island, Lagos, the Deputy Commissioner for Insurance, Mallam Sabiu Bello Abubakar, who represented the Commissioner for Insurance, Olorundare Sunday Thomas, said the event will afford the Commission the opportunity to unveil what they have in stock for journalists including important information which, according to him, will be unfolded on Friday by the Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Thomas.
The Commissioner for Insurance, Abubakar said, will discuss NAICOM reforms, strategic plan and market development, stressing that the Insurance retreat for Journalists is a good measure for NAICOM and Media to take the insurance sector to the next level.
He gave the assurance that the good relationship between the regulatory body and the Media will be further strengthened, adding that NAICOM and the insurance journalists partnership was a strategic Plan to translate its Vision, Mission and Values into actionable and measurable goals, objectives, initiatives, and activities.
According to the Deputy Commissioner for Insurance, Thomas will provide direction for both long- and short-term decision-making by the Board for implementation by Senior Management to fulfil the organisation’s mission.
“Similarly, it will enable the Commission to make strategic efforts in ensuring adequate protection of the policyholders, beneficiaries and third parties to insurance contracts and also deepen insurance market penetration, it noted.
“On this premise, several initiatives have been designed by the Commission to facilitate the attainment of the strategic focus which will redefine the future of the Nigerian insurance market.”
“The Commission is also internalizing the human capital development initiative through the effective plan of action for the takeoff of its academy, and will soon be requesting assistance from erudite scholars in the industry to fill the identified knowledge gaps in the regulatory system,” Abubakar noted.
