In her presentation entitled: “Projecting Our Motto: ‘We Serve’ For Impactful Community Service,” the Guest speaker who is also the Secretary, Global Leadership Team, Lion Blessing Umebali, harped extensively on the need for Lions to be humble in the course of their service.
She called on Lions to be consistent in their giving, humble in service and dedicated in their responsibilities and activities.
According to her, giving all with consistency; never allow someone in crisis to go unserved are values we hold dear in Lions clubs as a service organization.
“As Lions, we so much believe in our motto: “We Serve”. We should be strong, humble, and dedicated with our loving spirit, coming together for greater unity as never before, to positively impact our communities.
As Lions, it is only when we humble and serve that we can truly serve. In Lionism, we find socialization while serving others not socialising in detriment to our primary focus. So, as we are serving, we are socializing.
While we focus on our motto, “we serve” to impact our societies, let our efforts yield results, that is when we will be commended. If you want to discover yourself, lose yourself for the service of others,” she said.
She went further to say that “there are so many benefits in serving and I can attest to this. We as Lions, serve all people in all places. Lions are shining examples in the world by uniting in harmony. We are known for our strength and ability to help others and this can only come through service from the heart; because service is our way of life. How is service a way of life? It might not be that money you give to someone that he values; it might be your time – the time you have dedicated to doing whatever you do that adds value to one’s life; it might be your talent.
“Lions serve the community with dedication by contributing to the wellbeing of millions of people globally. In the course of rendering service, we face many challenges, but those challenges never stopped us. I remembered during the heat of COVID-19 in 2020, you still see Lions in the streets carrying out their activities. We were relieving hunger. We were giving food to the people because they needed food, she further dropped a quote by Mother Theresa, If you cannot feed the nation, feed one person. Let’s continue in the spirit of giving because it’s only when you give that you can receive.”
The Zone 3A Chairperson, Lion Katherine Obalim, earlier in her opening remark, thanked the president of Ikeja Crystal Lions Clubs and her Ifako Ijaiye Lions Club counterpart and other club members presence for finding time to attend the meeting, stating that the meeting was called to know how the two clubs were faring especially in the areas of activities and membership growth drive.
The President of Ikeja Crystal Lions Club and Ifako Ijaiye Lions Club, Lion Roseline Mozie and Lion Princess Adewunmi Akinyemi respectively briefed the gathering on the position and activities of their clubs.
