Lions Clubs reiterate commitment to humanitarian services …Donates booth to FRSC
The Chairperson of Zone 6A Lions Club, Lion Blessing Modupe Umebali, and other Lions presented a surprise birthday cake to the District Governor, Lion Asiwaju Ayobola Samuel at the awards/get-together party organized by Lions Club, Zone 6A in Lagos on June 8, 2018.
International Association of Lions Clubs, District 404B2 Nigeria, has reiterated its commitment to humanitarian services.
The District Governor, Lion (Chief) Ayobola Samuel, made the disclosure at the unveiling/presentation of Zone 6A Legacy Project and Awards/Get-Together organized by the zone in Lagos recently.
“As an Association committed to making impact in the life of the people in our communities, we shall more than ever before remain committed to the course of service to humanity as we need to continue to address issues bothering on poverty, hunger and disaster which constitute a clog in the wheel of progress of the people regardless of their creed, race or religion.
“Our main focus among others has been in empowering the youths relieving hunger, protecting our environment and using sight preservation to combat poverty. In demonstration of our commitment to the five key challenge areas, we shall be carrying out a programme on Paediatric Cancer at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) tomorrow. This is because cases of cancer among children are assuming a dangerous dimension,” Lion Ayobola said.
The Paediatric Cancer Awareness programme, took place on Saturday June 9, 2018 at LASUTH.
He said for over 100 years Lions all over the world have served their communities with dedication and contributing to the well-being of millions of people.
The District Governor posited that the awards was not only appropriate but necessary as those who worked hard deserve to be recognized while after an action-packed year, members deserve to unwind and catch their fun in line with a popular saying “Work hard, relax well.”
He commended the leadership of Zone 6A for raising the bar of the service “by justifying the essence of our being a service organization,” and congratulated the Chairperson of the zone, Lion Blessing Modupe Umebali, for providing a purposeful leadership and the zeal to mobilize the members to put service delivery above every other things, just has he urged other zones in the District to emulate this commendable step, which he described as “a step in the right direction.”
While congratulating the awardees for their well deserved recognition, he also reminded them that “the reward for hard work is more work.”
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Zone 6A Chairperson, Lion Blessing Modupe Umebali CGI, NLCF, NLEF, who was a cynosure of all eyes, appreciated the support of all members under her zone and other Lions.
She explained that the award was their own way of saying thank you to those who have added great value to humanity.
“Our journey hasn’t been that rosy but we thank God all our challenges gave us opportunity to succeed in touching the lives of the vulnerable and the poor in our community,” she said.
Giving her administration’s score card, she said “We have succeeded in holding four District Governor Advisory Council Committee meetings. These meetings help us to table our various club challenges in terms of membership, payment of both local and international dues, giving our monthly membership (MMR) report, My Lions Club International (MyLCI) report and other challenges and we also gave advice that had helped clubs in our zone and we are happy for it.
“Clubs under Zone 6A have carried centennial projects, youths’ empowerment programme, environmental programme, diabetic, paediatric cancer programme, relieving hunger etc. These projects and activities have been reported appropriately.”
She described all clubs under the zone as “totally great clubs” and the members as “distinguished ladies and gentlemen,” who, according to her “truly believe in touching lives and impacting their communities.”
She thanked the District Governor, Executives and all members for their unwavering support.
Meanwhile, As a prelude to the Awards/Get-together were the presentation/ commissioning of a Traffic Officers’ booth at the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Zone 2 Command, Ojodu earlier in the day.
While commissioning the booth, the District Governor, Lion Ayobola Samuel, said the presentation of the booth was to provide shelter for FRSC officers while on duty.
Speaking also, Chairperson for Zone 6A whose zone undertook the project, Lion Blessing Modupe Umebali, said the presentation of the booth was “Lions’ little way of supporting FRSC’s operations in line with our objective of protecting our environment through shelter provision.”
Responding, Deputy Corps, Olusegun Akinyemi, who represented the Zonal Commander, Assistant Corp Marshal, John Meheux thanked the Lions Club for their good gesture and promised to put the booth into good use.
Members of Lions Clubs and other individuals who received award at the awards/get-together expressed excitement, saying the award serves as s propelling factor for them to do more.
