Lion Albert Attunnise assumes Leadership of Maryland Lions Club

Sunday, November 25, 2018 will remain evergreen in the mind of Lion Albert Olubanji Attunise, the 33rd President of Maryland Lions Club, under the International Association of Lions Clubs, District 404B2 Nigeria.
This was the day friends, business colleagues, associates and members of Maryland Lions Club who dressed in their best form rolled out drums and trumpets, gathered in a large number to celebrate and witness investiture and public presentation of Lion Albert as the 33rd President of the Club.
The occasion which took place at Preskan Hotel & Resorts Limited, Ikeja, was well attended and was also used for fund raising and installation of other officers of the club.
In her speech before administering the oath of office on Lion Albert, the District Governor, District 404B2 Nigeria, Lion Modupe Data, tasked the incoming President on the importance of aggressive membership drive for the sustainability of the club and service to humanity being their objective.
He was charged to bring his wealth of experience in Lionism and all spheres of life to bear to ensure the success of his presidency.
According to her, “Your assumption of office as a club president is coming at a time when the entire clubs in the District are on their toes in the provisions of services to our various communities and the sustainability of our clubs through aggressive membership growth. This is even more challenging for your young club, which has undergone some turbulence in the recent times.
“It is therefore hoped and expected that you will bring your wealth of experience to the Lions family and other spheres of life to bear on the club by bringing together all the elements within and outside the club to enable you achieve your goal of attracting quality membership growth and providing quality services to your immediate communities.”
The District Governor assured the incoming President of Maryland Lions Club of the preparedness and willingness of all organs of the District to support him in all his endeavour, warning that “failures, no matter how little is not an option this year.”
In his acceptance speech, the highly elated Lion Albert Attunnise took a retrospectives look at the activities of the Club in the past 32 years, noting that the club has carried out several humanitarian projects aimed at impacting its immediate communities.
Some of the project executed during the period under review according to him included: Construction of dormitory at the Modupe Cole Memorial Childcare and Treatment Home School at Okoka, Lagos; Sinking of borehole and provision of overhead tank for Onigbongbo Community, Maryland; Regular visitation and donation of care packages to the less privileged in Lagos State and participation in District’s and Region’s core project.
The incoming President said in line with the International Lions campaign for 2018/2019 Service year, the club will focus on three core areas – provision of sight to the blind, such as eyes screening and provision of eye glasses to at least 500 people with eyes problem; community development like sinking of borehole and provision of overhead tank to three communities and continues in quarterly donation of care packages to the less privileges in the society.
The occasion was chaired by Honourable Olanrewaju Oladunjoye; the Father of the Day was His Royal majesty, Oba Kehinde Gbadewale Ologbanle, Asade Agunloye IV, The Olu of Itaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland (President, Yewa Council of Obas) while Prince Owen Ajibola Alao Adeniran was the Chief Launcher.
The Guest Speaker, the Director of Operations, Seban Ventures, Mr. Ogunlana Oluseye Ebenezer, who was represented by Miss Obesesan Oluwatosin in his lecture entitled “Oxidative Stress and Diseases,” called on all to live an active lifestyle and avoid intake of those things that can cause malfunction of their body system.
While emphasizing the importance of natural therapies for healthy living, Miss Oluwatosin mentioned environmental pollution, poor dieting, exposure to radiation, lack of proper exercise as some of the causes of Oxidative Stress and Diseases.
She said to avoid Oxidative Stress and Diseases, people should be careful on what they eat, the kind of drugs they take and what they do.
Guests at the occasion were entertained by Navy Bank while they donated generously to the success of the club’s activities for 2018/2019 Lions year.
