Jubilation in Nnewi as Ifeanyi Ubah wins Anambra South Senatorial seat
It was double celebration for the people of the industri¬al town of Nnewi. Anambra state as their illustrious son, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, the chairman, CEO of Capital Oil and Gas who is the flag bearer of Young progres¬sives Party(YPP) emerged victori¬ous in the Anambra South senato¬rial election.
The result which was officially announced by the Returning Offic¬er, Umenweke M.N, Dean Faculty of Law, Nnamdi Azikiwe Univer¬sity Awka saw the publisher of The Authority Newspapers poll¬ing 87,081 votes to beat the PDP standard bearer Chief Chris Uba to the second place.
The incumbent Senator for the zone who is of the ruling APC, Dr Andy Uba got 13,245 votes to occu¬py a distant third position while the APGA candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu polled 1269 to emerge fourth.
Similarly, the lawmaker rep¬resenting Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo local govern¬ment areas in the House of Rep¬resentatives, Hon Chris Azubogu of PDP was returned after polling 54,533 votes .
Prof Austin Igwe of Depart¬ment of History and Internation¬al Relations, Nnamdi Azikiwe Uni¬versity, Awka while announcing the results of the House of Repre¬sentatives elections said the APGA flag bearer Iju Tony Nwabunike polled 18,811 votes while Engr JK Onyeka who ran on the platform of APC got 4,979 votes to emerge third.
Dr Ubah while speaking with journalists after emerging victori¬ous, reassured his constituents of quality representation in the red chamber of the National Assembly.
He said further that the peo¬ple of Anambra South senatorial zone should expect unprecedented democratic dividends as soon as he settles down for legislative business in the National Assembly.
Hon Chris Azubogu who is popularly called Mr Project by his constituents promised to contin¬ue his good work in the House of Representatives.
The two results which were of¬ficially released in the early hours of yesterday saw some fire works in the Umuanuka Otolo-Nnewi res¬idence of Dr Ubah where people danced all through the remaining part of the night.
Meanwhile, commendations have continued to trail the election victory of the publisher of The Au¬thority Newspapers whose deter¬mination saw him through to the senate after many attempts to frus¬trate him out of the race.
It would be recalled that Dr Ubah, a youth friendly politician was disqualified from running on the platform of APGA during the party primary after which he moved to YPP.
The proprietor of Rojen¬ny Games Village, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka was one of the first personalities who congratulated the oil merchant for his election victory.
Rojenny as he is popular¬ly called , said he is sure the senator elect would be a very quality rep¬resentation to Anambra South dis¬trict in the red chamber.
