Professionals in the insurance industry and their counterparts in the building sector have agreed to work together in order to end the incessant building collapse in Nigeria.
Speaking at the 2023 National Insurance Brokers Conference & Exhibition with the theme “Insurance & The Building Industry: Forging a Better Synergy,” the President/Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), Bar Rotimi Edu; the President, Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyor(NIQS), Mr Shonubi Olayemi and the President, Nigerian Institute of Builders (NIOB), Mr Tunji Adeniran, expressed their readiness to come together to save the country from building collapse.
They said there is a need for the professionals in the insurance and the built industry to collaborate in order to move the two industries forward and enhance the national economy.
The NCRIB President described the theme of the conference as apt and capable of addressing the bogging problems of non-infusion of insurance content into the uptakes of professionals in the built environment.
He pointed out that in Nigeria unlike overseas, the synergy between the built professionals and insurance industry is nonexistent, to the grave disadvantage of the two divides as well as the public that engage their services.
“We are all living with the stories and challenges of building collapses all over the country, leaving scores of Nigerians dead while properties running into billions of naira are ruined. These are ordinarily risks that could have been taken up by the insurance industry within the provisions of the extant insurance law. But as the saying goes it’s better late than never, this conference is another bold step in broaching this desired relationship between the two sectors,” Bar Edu said.
The theme paper presenter, Mr Olayemi, the chairman of the panel of discussion, Mr Adeniran and the General Manager, Lagos Building Control Agency, Arc Gbolahan Oki emphasized the need for synergy between insurance professionals and those in the built environment to end the issue of building collapse in the country.
The National Insurance Brokers Conference and Exhibition is one of the NCRIB epochal events held yearly which brings together insurance operators and strategic stakeholders in the economy for them to dilate on any chosen issues germane to the growth of the industry and capable of advancing national economic development.
