Ikeja Metro Lions Club President Urged to Commit to Humanitarian Service
Lion Ademola Adesoye, District Governor 404B2 Nigeria, installs the President, Lion Evelyn Agbonifo as the 19th Club President and 9th Female President.
The District Governor, District 404B2 Nigeria, International Association of Lions Clubs, Lion Ademola Adesoye, has called on the new President of the Ikeja Metro Lions Club, Lion Evelyn Agbonifo-Fashakin, to commit to humanitarian service in order to positively impact the lives of the people.
Speaking at the public presentation of the 19th President of the Ikeja Metro Lions Club at the weekend in Lagos, the District Governor urged the president and members of the club to reach out and touch lives because kindness matters.
Lion Ademola Adesoye who was referring members to District’s theme of the year, “Reach Out, Touch Lives – Kindness Matters,” said “I will particularly urge you and all the wonderful members of your club to reach out to people in the society, touch lives and show a lot of kindness.

“You are expected to key into all District projects especially the building of the diabetes screening and treatment and the construction of a befitting eye centre recently approved by the district leadership.
“This exalted office mainly imposes more responsibilities on you in accomplishing the task of lions clubs international membership growth as well as improvement especially in the area of membership retention and expansion. You are expected to focus on the core service areas: vision, diabetes, pediatric cancer, hunger and environment.
“To those much is given, much is also expected, you are expected to also focus on LCIF campaign 100 and encourage your members to contribute for their MJF/PMJF and our NLCF,” the District Governor said.

He also charged the President to work with her team in order to take the club to a higher level.
In his valedictory speech at the occasion, immediate past President of the Club, Lion Lucky John Oriazowan, listed the achievements of the club under his leadership as the Club President 2019/2020 Lions service year.
During the period under review, Lion Orizowan said the club carried out major activities including youth empowerment, childhood cancer awareness, world sight day, environment, world diabetes day, Hellen Keller day, relieving the hungry, world Literacy day, world AIDS day and COVID-19 palliatives.

In 2019/2020 Lion year, a total number of 57 service activities were completed; 163,500 people were served; a total of 107 thousand dollars was raised while 106 dollars was donated by the club.
Lion John Lucky Oriazowan and Lion Ikechukwu Godson Anigbo were the first two members of the club to become Melvin Jones Fellows (MJF) while Lion Elizabeth Akinrele and Lion Emmanuel Onomhenrelu Okoduwa and Lion Precious Afe Braimoh became members of the Nigeria Lions Charity Foundation (NLCF).
During the period under review, Lion Blessing Uzoamaka Umebali was the first Lion member of the club to be selected amongst other lions in the district to attend the Advanced Lions Leadership Institute (ALLI) training in Lusaka, Zambia during the first All African Forum.

The Club, according to him, also became the first in District 404B2 to win Peace Poster Contest, amongst other awards.
While calling on members to put their differences aside and continue to build a formidable force that will make the club healthy and strong, the immediate past President charged members to render the same support accorded him to his successor, Lion Evelyn Agbonifo-Fashakin in order to consolidate on the club’s achievements.
In her acceptance speech, the President of the Ikeja Metro Lions Club (2020/2021), Lion Evelyn Agbonifo-Fashakin, expressed commitment to humanitarian service, describing it as “a great opportunity and rewarding.”
Lion Evelyn who was speaking at her public presentation as the 19th club president and 7th female president of Ikeja Metro Lions Club and installation of other club officials as well as induction of the new members of the club, stressed the need for selfless service to the less privileged in our communities.
According to him, “it is a great opportunity and indeed rewarding to give selfless service to the less privileged in our communities in a passionate way…”

Lion Evelyn who described Ikeja Metro Lions Club as the most active club in the Multiple District and in the international level, said in the last five months the club has been able to serve the community and humanity in various ways.
Some of the ways, according to her, include cleaning of environment to make it a better place to live in; helping in fight against Childhood cancer through donation of medical items and creating awareness about the deadly ailment; empowering the youths with various skills acquisition programme/training and starter packs and donation of hygiene items to Gbagada Primary School.
The new president of Ikeja Metro Lions Club said in line with international president and district governor’s tasks and targets, the club have identified additional projects to be executed by the club aimed at improving the lives of the people of our communities.
While expressing the willingness of the club to do more, she solicited the support of the general public, institutions, corporate organisations and well meaning individuals to enable the club reach out and touch more lives.
