The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Gbagada General Hospital renovated and equipped by the Ikeja Metro Lions Club as part of it’s 2022/2023 Lions Service Year activities, has been commissioned and handed over to the hospital management.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony at the Hospital premises yesterday, the Core Project Chairperson, Lion Blessing Umebali, gave reasons why the Club embarked on the renovation and equipping the Intensive Care Unit at Gbagada General Hospitals even as she called on the government and other philanthropists to complete the remaining 40% of the project.

According to her, last year September we went round some hospitals in the state to see what they need for Ikeja Metro Lions Club to do since Selfless Service is in our DNA. It was on this journey that we found Gbagada Hospital. Our initial plan then was to build a Childhood Cancer Ward but the management of the hospital told us that the urgent need here is to assist the government to renovate and equip the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Items donated by the Club included 2 Units of 3 Crank standard ICU bed; 2 Units of Air Mattresses; 1 Unit of Defibrillator; 3 Units of Infusion Pumps; 8 Units of Drip Stand and Infusion Set; 6 Units of Theatre Forceps; 2 Units of Laryngoscopes and 4 Units of Suctions Tubes.

“At Gbagada Hospital what Ikeja Metro Lions Club did was to simply assist the government in providing the basic infrastructures by this gesture of renovating and providing equipment at the Intensive Care Unit of Gbagada General Hospital.

“We call on the Government to see how they can come and tidy up the remaining 40 percent as we, members of Ikeja Metro Lions Club International, have done our best.

“What we did here is to renovate the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), which we met at a dilapidated stage. And we gathered that about 90 percent of the patients die on their way while rushing them to ICU in other hospitals since Gbagada General Hospital hasn’t got any,” Blessing said

The Medical Director/CEO, Gbagada General Hospital, Dr. Babafemi Joseph appreciating the Medical apparatus donated by Ikeja Metro Lions Club others are Deputy Director Hospital Admin/Human Resources, Mrs. Olufunmilola Dosunmu ; District Governor, Lion Olalekan Owolabi and Core Project Chairperson,Lion Blessing Umebali

“Today, we have been able to majorly embark on one of the 5 global causes, which is protecting our Environment through this renovation. When our environment is clean, neat and fresh, especially Hospitals of this magnitude the health of the patient who is admitted gets quick recovery unlike when it is unkempt.”

Earlier in his speech, Lion Godson Ikechukwu Anigbo, club President, represented by Lion Ahmed Olusi, thanked members of the Club and other donors for their support, adding that “this gathering was specially organized to commission, appreciate and celebrate your act of kindness. What could I have done as a club president without you guys? You are my backbone.”

While commending those who distinguished themselves in supporting the project, the President said “Lions Club, as a charity and humanitarian organization, has changed millions of lives. In the course of rendering our services to humanity, we encountered numerous challenges, and today, we can look back and smile at our achievement because of your support and that of other kindhearted individuals and corporate bodies.

“….Thank you so much, we cannot thank you enough. All your efforts and support are recognized, appreciated, and commended, It is impossible to spell success without you. Your generous support has helped us to record this landmark achievement today.

District Governor reads words on the Wall Marbles as he commissions the Core Project of Ikeja Metro Lions Club 2022-2023 Year Project.

“Our hospital is visited by over 35,000 clients every month. Their health care needs range from common infectious/parasitic diseases to kidney, heart diseases and oncology issues. We presently serve as a referral center to many hospitals.

“The management is about starting a wellness clinic where the focus will be on the prevention of both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
