Ijegun Joint CDA Football League: Stage Set For Quarter Final

The stage is now set for the quarter-final of the ongoing Ijegun Joint Community Development Area Football League.

So far, eight teams have qualified from the round of 16 for the quarter-final stage and the teams are in high spirits waiting to devour their opponents in their next matches to move to the final.

The eight teams which include Olorunsogo CDA, Abanishe CDA, Ijegun Central CDA, Afurugbin CDA, Irede CDA, Kudeyibu CDA, Irewolede CDA and Ifelodun CDA picked their quarter-final slot during the keenly contested matches played on Saturday and Sunday at various centres of the competition.

Our correspondent, who visited the various teams in their camps within their CDAs, said all the teams are seriously training in preparation for the next round of the tournament.

Below are the highlights of the matches on centre by centre basis as contained in a statement issued by the IJCDA Public Relations Officer (PRO), Engr. Ajasa Abiodun.

Saturday Matches

  1. The first match between Ajagun CDA vs Ijegun Central CDA – Ajagun CDA did not present any team for the tournament giving a walk-over win to their opponent, the Ijegun Central CDA which was awarded a 3-goal win. Congratulations to Ijegun Central CDA on a platter of Gold
  2. The 2nd match of the day was between Ifedapo CDA and Afurugbin CDA. Afurugbin CDA boys (The Planter) did not allow the mixed-up love in Ifedapo according to their name to have any effect on their performance as they walloped the Ifeloju boys with 3 goals while the Ifedapo boys were only able to reduce the goal margin by just one goal thus making Afurugbin CDA -the Planter, to qualify for the next round.
  1. The third match between Irede CDA and Ifeloju started very well until the Irede – Goodness Has Come Boys started opening fire at the goal of their opponent. The Ifeloju Boys could not prove that Love was actually Supreme in winning the day’s match but returned only one goal back from the 3 goals scored by Goodness Has Come -the Irede-boys. Irede boys were determined to break the goal records but the Goal tender for Ifeloju would not allow more than 3 goals into his net. A very interesting match played by the two teams despite the win and loss. Congratulations to both teams.
  2. The Isokan CDA Team against the Olorunsogo CDA was like a fight of the Titans. The IJCDA Coordinator team, Isokan could not make their thoughts be one according to their name, against the Akogun Oduntan-led Olorunsogo boys who displayed wonderful football prowess and skills on the field of play. A well-coordinated team using a combination of their Captain John, a diminutive strong bull and Adewale (the Star Boy) upfront dismantled the defence of the Coordinator Boys three 3 times while the Coordinator Boys after coordinating their thoughts in one accord were able to reduce the score line by 1 goal. The excited Ajagun Oduntan could not hide his pride over his boys’ performance. With this Olorunsogo qualified and moved to for the next round.
  3. The last match of the day was between the Home players, the Praying Field CDA boys, tagged Engr Alidu’s Boys or the Home Boys against the Abanishe CDA. The Homeboys really stood their ground that a straight win would not get them out of the competition on their own field thus conceding no goal from the visitor, Abanishe Boys for the full time. The Abanishe boys led by Pastor Seun Alfred to the field of play despite all efforts could not score a goal and tried hard not to concede a good for the full time.  However, a penalty shootout decided the winner of the match. Unfortunately, The Home Boys could not defeat the Abanishe Boys in penalty making them lose to Abanishe with a goal margin of 4 -2. Congratulations to Abanishe CDA for moving to the next round.

Sunday Matches

6 Kudeyibu KECDA vs Atewolara CDA.

An interesting match that saw Kudeyibu (KECDA) Team narrowly escaping penalty decisions after trouncing their opponent, Atewolara with a deciding goal making the score line to be 2-1 against Atewolara, thereby making Hon Akinwumi boys to scale through to the next round. Thank God the boys didn’t allow their Chairman’s boasting to be in vain.

  1. Ogunkoya vs Irewolede.

A well-balanced match of two giants from the same zone – Ogunkoya CDA opened up scoring against their opponent Irewolede CDA, but the Irewolede boys would not allow Ogunkoya to go into the first half with one goal up by equalising shortly before the end of the first half. The 2nd half saw a very determined Irewolede scoring the deciding goal thereby making them qualify for the Quarter Final.

  1. Progressive VS Ifelodun
The match between Progressive CDA and Ifelodun CDA was another interesting and exciting match but in the end, Ifelodun CDA boys defeated Progressive CDA by 2 goals to 1.
