Ijegun ‘Football League’ To Promote Youths Participation In Community Development Kicks Off
The Ijegun ‘Football League’ which is aimed at promoting and encouraging youths participation in community development has kicked off in a positive note with 27 teams competing for championship.
The tournament which is in line with the commitment of Ijegun Joint Community Development Area (IJCDA) Executives is to positively create enabling environment for the youths in the community to showcase their hidden talents.
The IJCDA Executives led by Alhaji Ashaka had decided to organise a week long activities specifically to showcase various talents in the community, promote friendliness and unity among the youth, develop and promote inter-school competitions amongst children in Secondary Schools within Ijegun Community.
The week long activities started with the Football Tournament now referred to as *Ijegun Football League* on Saturday to Sunday to determine the best teams to proceed to the round of 16.
A very healthy football rivalry that showcased different football skills by youths was well applauded by various CDA Chairmen and team supporters from different CDAs.
This is evident of the fact that our youths in Ijegun are stars on their own. The Organising Committee is looking further to expand the league and promote it further.
The Public Relation Officer (PRO) of Ijegun Joint CDA, Engr Ajasa Abiodun alongside other members of the Planning Committee stated that Schools Quiz and Debate among schools in Ijegun is already in the pipeline and will come up mid November so it doesn’t disturb the students exams.
Other activities such as Indoor Games, Novelty Matches etc, according to the organizers, are in the pipeline for the Grand Finale.
Some of the team captains who spoke with our correspondent at some of the venues of the competition expressed excitement for being part of the football tournament and commended the IJCDAs for their foresight.
”We are so happy to be part of this football tournament and on behalf of my teammates, I thank the leadership of the Ijegun Joint Community Development Areas for making this to happen in our community,” said one of them.
