ICPC Commends CONYSSA in Fight against Insecurity and Corruption in Nigeria
The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, has commended the Coalition of Nigerian Youths on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA) for its contributions towards fighting insecurity and corruption for nation building.
Dr. Adamu Aliyu gave the commendation Thursday in his goodwill message at the Nigerian Youth Stakeholders’ Security Submit organised by the CONYSSA, held at the Army Resource Centre in Abuja.
The ICPC Chairman, represented by Mr. J. Okor Odey, a Deputy Director and Head of Education Division of the ICPC, eulogized the organizations for its giant efforts in curbing insecurity and corruption in the society and expressed the interest of the Commission for a possible strategic partnership that can further mobilize and engage the Nigerian youths in the fight against corruption.
In his words, “from what we have seen and heard today, CONYSSA is doing well. It has structures in every state and in almost all the Local Government Areas in the Country. Therefore, it is an organization that the ICPC will be ready to partner with in its fight against corruption”.
The ICPC Boss further hailed the organisation for its work of mobilising youths against insecurity, drug abuse, corruption and other social vices, and also for defending the rights of the young people against injustices in Nigeria.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director General of CONYSSA, Amb. Ade Mario Emmanuel called on security agencies and other government apparatus to take advantage of the youth volunteerism in accessing difficult terrains in addressing insecurity bedeviling the nation.
Mr. Emmanuel bemoaned over some of the challenges the youths face, especially in their quest to contribute their quota in ensuring a safer and peaceful society. According to him, sometimes it becomes difficult to establish a clear understanding with some security agents in the field, especially when doing their jobs.
He also called on the security agencies to prioritise volunteer youths during recruitments to serve as encouragement to the young people who put their lives on line to help curb insecurity in the country. He further emphasised that priorities be given to all voluntary uniform organisations, especially at the grassroots.
The submit had in attendance, other dignitaries such as the representatives of the Inspector General of Police, Honourable Minister of Youths Development, Chairman/CEO, NDLEA, Director General-NYSC, members of civil society organisations and youth leaders drawn from across the country.
