Gov Bala Mohammed Approves Disbursement Of N413.8m Scholarship To 19,191 Students

The Bauchi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed, has disbursed the sum of N413.8 million as scholarships to 19,191 students studying in institutions across the country for the year 2023.

According to thesun.ng, this  was disclosed by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr Lydia Huruna Tsamani, at a ministerial briefing organised by the state Ministry of Information and Digital Communication.

Tsamani revealed that the sum of N38 million was also paid as foreign scholarships to indigenous students studying abroad.

“The scholarship board adopted the e-scholarship for application and payment of allowances as a process of modernisation as well as to improve efficiency and accountability of the system,” she said.

“The board, on behalf of the state government, participated in the bilateral agreement between Nigeria and member countries like Egypt, Algeria, Cyprus, Brazil, Russia, China, etc., which accords Bauchi State the rare opportunity to obtain full scholarships for her indigenes.

“Sixteen indigenous students have already gained admission and are already studying under this agreement.”

The commissioner explained that the board has secured the governor’s approval of a grant of N120 million to Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s Foundation to assist Bauchi State students who gained scholarship admission to study in Algeria with airfare.

Tsamani said the newly created Ministry for Higher Education has swung into action to address the myriad issues facing it and the nine higher institutes of learning.

“The ministry started in two rooms spared to [it] by the Scholarship Board,” she stated.

“However, not long [after], His Excellency approved the acquisition of a space sourced by the ministry in conjunction with the Office of the Head of Service.

“The office accommodation was renovated and furnished for the comfort of the ministry.

“The ministry sourced funding approval and releases to six institutions for the accreditations of some expired courses (some institutions were on [their] last warning [regarding the] closure of courses).

“The institutions that had their courses accredited in 2024 are Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi; Sa’adu Zungur University, Gadau; Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education, Kangere; Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare; A.D. Rufa’i College of Education, Legal and General Studies, Misau; and Bauchi State College of Agriculture, Bauchi.”
