Glo adds 950,000 new subscribers as internet users rise to 116m
Telecommunication giant, Globacom, has added 950,000 to its data subscriber base, according to the latest sector figures posted on the website of the industry regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
According to the new figures, Globacom maintained its position as the preferred data service provider in the country as it took its internet subscription in March to 28,436,386 from the 27,486,271 it recorded in February, 2019.
MTN and Airtel also moved up in terms of data subscription, according to the published data of internet subscribers for the month of March 2019. MTN added 13,552 subscribers, while Airtel added 351,657 new internet users.
9mobile on its part recorded a loss of 166,542 users in March 2019.
With the latest statistics, the total internet users in Nigeria now stands at 115,938,225 in March from 114,725,357 recorded in February. This indicates an increase of 1,212,868 new subscribers in one month, with Globacom alone having over 78% of the growth.
Sources within the company said that Globacom’s increase in data subscription can be attributed to the network’s continued improvement in its data services.
“The company has the widest 4G LTE coverage in the country, and the technology ensures more reliable and faster internet usage experience. Globacom also has the most attractive data plans in the market, with packages that appeal to both high and low data users”, the source said.
