CRS Govt Opens 100-Bed Space Isolation Center, Sen. Ita Giwa Visits Bakassi IDP Camp, Donate Food Items
The Cross River State government in partnership with the Coalition against COVID-19, has commissioned a one hundred bed space Isolation Center in Adiabo Community, a suburb of the capital city Calabar, just as Senator Florence Ita Giwa Visited Bakassi IDP Camp and donated food and other items.
These were published on the state government official website recently.
While Inaugurating the Center, on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Health Dr Betta Edu said the center is equipped with an Intensive Care Unit, a laboratory to run basic tests as well as other Medical Equipments to support the fight against COVID-19.
In another development, to help cushion the effect of the novel Corona virus, Sen. Florence Ita Giwa has visited camps of the displaced people of Bakassi in Bakassi LGA in Cross River State.
The former presidential adviser was accompanied at the visit by other notable women leaders in the state, including special assistant to governor Ayade on gender development, Blessing Ekpo, as well as all newly elected councillors in the LGA.
The displaced people were presented with bags of rice, garri, sanitizer, sanitary pads among other items. She expressed worry over the continuous neglect of the people of Bakassi and called on president Buhari to look into the plight of the people.
“This is just about creating awareness on this pandemic, although we thank God that the Pandemic has not reach Cross River State, thanks also to what the governor has been doing.
“This is just the first step to what we are doing, there are many more to come. There is skills acquisition and others but for now we are facing this Pandemic. We have plans to go to other areas to visit the elderly, homeless and so on”
She said, her organization, foundation for the children of Bakassi collaboration with other international organizations under the auspices of African Preventing Poverty (APP) decided to ameliorate the condition of the people by giving them palliatives to cushion the effect of the Pandemic currently ravaging the world and the people of Bakassi in particular.
Sen. Ita Giwa also commended governor Ayade for the newly constructed 52 housing units for the people and called for the urgent intervention of the federal government as well as asking for the implementation of the Green Tree aggremment.
Some of the displaced people who spoke with journalists expressed gratitude to the Sen. Giwa, maintaining that she has severally risen to their rescuse each time they are faced with challenges. They also called on the federal government to look into their plight by ensuring that they are properly resettled.
