Cross River Head of Service Sets Up Disciplinary Committee

The Head of Service of Cross River State, Dr. Chris Ekeng Ita, has setup an 8-man Disciplinary Committee for the Civil Service of Cross River State.
Inaugurating the 8-man Committee in his Office, New Secretariat Complex, Calabar. Dr. Ita charged the committee members to discharge the functions without fear or favour. Adding that, special committee of this sort is not often except the need arises.
According to Dr. Ita, there are genuine Civil Servants that were due for promotion but could not enjoy it due to the mistakes of few persons in the service. He further informed that every Civil Servant was culpable for the rots in the service, but that he will do his best to sanitize the system for the benefit of all Civil Servant and the State at large. He expressed satisfaction with the caliber of persons selected to serve in the committee which he described as very seasoned personnel in the traditions of the service.
In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the committee and Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, office of the Head of Service, Elder Emmanuel Enene Eke thanked the Head of Service for finding them worthy of the appointment, adding that, the Head of Service have done what many of his predecessors could not do. Mr. Eke described the action of the Head of Service as the first and rightful step to return the Civil Service to it lost glory and dignity.
He assured the Head of Service that Members of the Committee would not be intimidated by the nature of the job because there are persons of proven integrity and would deliver predictably in the job.
Terms of reference for the Committee were to ascertain whether or not the business of government in terms of promotions and appointments since 2013 were conducted in accordance with the extant rules and regulations of the service, entertain cases of disobedience of lawful order such as refusal by officers in the service to accept valid posting and such other related matters that may be referred to it by the Head of Service, entertain petitions concerning unlawful promotions by Ministries, Departments and Agencies and individuals, handle petitions arising from fraudulent promotions leading to undue contemporary seniority, and recommend disciplinary action(s) or measures deemed appropriate in accordance with the Cross River State Civil/Public Service Rules 2004, in order to forestall future occurrence where obvious fraud (misconduct) is detected both officers must have penalty. Other members of the committee are Mrs. Irene Aniyom, Permanent Secretary Civil Service Commission, Pastor. Mrs. Helen Brown Ubom, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishment and Payroll, Mr. Gabriel Ikang, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Dr. Mrs. Ihort Achu, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Mrs. Aniedi B. Ekpenyong, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Quality Education, a representative from the Civil Service Commission, and the Director of Administration, Office of the Head of Service, Mrs. Agness Inyang to serve as Secretary to the Committee. The committee is to submit its report on or before June 26, 2020.
Other dignitaries that graced the event were some Commissioners from the Civil Service Commission, led by the Commission Chairman, Mr. Oko Inaku.
