COAS Commissions Newly Constructed Nigerian Army Polo Headquarters

In his untiring effort to promote sporting activities in the Nigerian Army (NA), the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya on Friday 2 June 2023 commissioned the newly constructed Headquarters Nigerian Army Polo Association (NAPA) and stables in Maitama, Abuja.
Speaking at the occasion, the COAS who extolled the Army Polo Team as one of the best in the country stated that the Nigerian Army will continue to support NAPA and other sporting activities by improving on existing facilities and developing new sporting infrastructures.
He added that the Polo game is significant to the the NA, as it imbues personnel with requisite equitation skills necessary for the conduct of some special operations and during ceremonial parades.
According to a statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army Chief further commended the management team and other partners of the Polo Association for their commitment in efficiently managing the club, urging them to sustain the standard.
Gen Yahaya also emphasized the need to positively project the club within and outside the shores of the country through active participation in both local and international Polo tournaments, as well as engaging the services of experts to enhance efficiency.
In his remarks, the Chairman of NAPA, Brigadier General Adamu Laka, on behalf of the management team expressed appreciation to the COAS for his unwavering support to the club.
He noted that with the support received from the COAS, the club now has the capacity to host the National Army Polo games, which was hitherto hosted twice outside the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Shedding light on future activities of the association, the Secretary of the Guards Polo Club Aliyu Umar disclosed that the association is looking forward to hosting the Commander – In – Chief and International Army games.
It could be recalled that NAPA had excelled in several local and international tournaments, playing against highly rated and skilled opponents such as France, Portugal, Egypt and Morocco.
The Army Polo club showcased its outstanding performance at the recent King Mohammed V International Polo Tournament in Morocco.
In expressing the club’s commitment to promoting polo , the association recently presented the Jos Polo President’s cup 2022 and FCT Minister’s cup 2023 to the COAS, when it paid a visit to the Army Headquarters.
Highlights of the event were a tour of facilities at the Army Polo Resort and donation of a Horse and a pair of Polo Boots to the COAS.
….Inaugurates Health Centre In Kaduna Community
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, on Thursday June 1, 2023 inaugurated a Model Health Centre constructed by the Nigerian Army at Gadan Gayan, Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
The project was facilitated by Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Jallo under the Nigerian Army Civil Military Project.
The COAS, represented by the Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy, Maj.-Gen. IM Yusuf, the Nigerian Army would continue to reciprocate the high level of cooperation and goodwill it enjoys from Nigerian citizens.
The COAS noted that the Nigerian Army embarked on the elaborate quick-impact project to support the healthcare needs of the people of Gadan Gayan and other part of the country in order to strengthen the existing good relationship between the people and the Nigerian Army.
He revealed that the gesture has over time significantly contributed to the NA’s successes in containing the multifaceted security challenges facing the nation, particularly through the non-kinetic approach.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State, Malam Jabir Khamis thanked the Nigerian Army for the intervention and pledged that the council would provide more primary healthcare facilities for the people.
The event was attended by Commanders of Nigerian Army formations and units in Kaduna state, and a representative of Emir of Zazzau, among others.
