Cholera: Lagos State Govt Takes Awareness To Community Leaders, CDAs

… Urges Residents To Embrace Hygienic Practices

As part of the efforts to reduce the spread of cholera in Lagos State, the Government has urged Community Leaders, members of Community Development Associations and all residents to embrace hygienic practices in the fight against the spread of cholera.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje made the call in his address at an interactive session with community leaders and CDAs, imploring attendees to ensure that the essence of the initiative is achieved through the implementation of the productive dialogues and resolutions reached during the meeting.

He added that the meeting was also part of the intervention measures of the State Government to mitigate the spread of the deadly disease, commending Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for creating a platform for Community Development Associations to interact with the State in addressing salient issues geared towards the development of Lagos State.

Agbaje stressed that the interactive session is a strategic meeting intended to curb the spread of cholera in communities, as the State Government intends to guard against its spread by enlightening members on ways to avoid contracting the disease.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Kikelomo Bolarinwa harped on the importance of the interactive session, urging participants to ensure information on hygiene and prevention of cholera.

The Chairman of Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council (LSCDAC), Alhaji Azeez Amusat, while giving his goodwill message, thanked Mr. Governor and the Ministry for involving Community Development Associations in the development agenda of Lagos State.

He also assured that Community Leaders will ensure that their communities are properly sensitised on preventing the spread of cholera.

Representative of the Ministry of Health and Director, Health Promotions, Mr Olusegun Badejo, during the technical session, informed that the Government’s efforts in combating the disease would only be effective when citizens adhere to health guidelines stipulated by the State Government.

Mr. Badejo, while discussing the first-aid efforts that can be administered on cholera patients, stressed that the first-aid treatment would help make the medical efforts of Health Care Professionals seamless, thereby increasing the recovery rate of cholera patients.

Director, Laboratory Services, LASEPA, Mrs. Olabisi Shonabire, who spoke extensively on cholera preventive measures, reiterated that the easiest way to collaborate with the State Government in combating the disease is by ensuring proper hand-washing, proper water distilling and hygiene practices.
