Chairman of House of Reps C’ttee on Media Pledges Good Working Relationship With Journalists
Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Media, Honourable Akin Rotimi, Lawmaker representing Ekiti North 1 (Ikole/Oye) federal constituency on Friday disclosed that Openess, quality representation and engagement will be the Hallmark of the 10th National Assembly.
According to independent.ng, the Lawmaker gave the assurance during a media chat with Journalist at the National Assembly House of Representatives presscorp center.
He emphasized the readiness of his committee to make information accessible and available to accredited journalist covering the House of Representatives.
The Lawmaker who is the Chairman House Committee on Media and Public Affairs in his address earlier had commended his deputy, Hon. Philip Agbese, Lawmaker representing Ado/ Okpokwu/ Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in Benue State for his support and readiness to take media committee to the next level.
Hon. Agbese on his part also commended the Chairperson of the House of Representatives Press Corps Grace Ike for her usual understanding and regular coordination of all the registered journalists covering the House of Representatives.
Agbese maintained that the visit to the press corps was just to familiarize himself with members while calling for the support of all to ensure the success of the 10th House of Representatives.
Agbese again while advising the newsmen of the House to always portray the House in a good light, he promised to ensure a formidable, good working relationship between journalists and the House of Representatives.
The Lawmaker also in commending the Speaker of the House, 10th House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas for taken adequate measures to ensure a smooth day to day running of the Parliament under his leadership.
He also disclosed of a retreat recently held in Akwa Ibom State for all the new Lawmakers, he said the retreat was parts of measures by the House to ensure competency among lawmakers in the House of Representative as lawmaking process requires certain training and processes.
The lawmaker also spoke on some certain things about the parliament, while commenting on some motions and bills recently presented during plenaries appraised his colleagues and fellow lawmakers, adding that all were quality in nature.
Reacting over alleged unavailability of information for newsmen, Chairman House Committee on Media, Hon Rotimi also promised the readiness of his commitee to engage the leadership of the House to see how they can address some challenges being faced by Journalist covering the House of Representatives.
Again Deputy Chairman House Commitee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Agnese urged journalists covering the House to always stick to their professional ethic inorder to ballance their reportage.
Hon. Agbese further explained the readiness of the Media Committee to work together for the good of the House of Representatives and the Country at large.
Reacting to some issues raised in the chat with him, during their visit, Hon. Rotimi explained while he can’t speak for the previous assemblies, he is optimistic that the 10th Assembly under his leadership will make information available to media at any given time.
According to the lawmaker, all the recently adopted motions are implementable while commending chairmen of comitees and their deputies for competency in handling the affairs of the assignments.
The House newsmen worried that the 9th House did not carry them along on oversight, while the Chairman assured of his determination to discuss the matter with some members of his Commitee to ensuring that training and retraining of media practitioners are made a priority.
