Buhari approves reappointment of Prof Chris Bode as LUTH CMD

The President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the reappointment of Prof. Christopher Bode, as the Chief Medical Director, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idi Araba, Lagos, for another term of four years having completed his first four years.
Prof. Bode has since received his letter of reappointment from the Minister of Health.
Confirming this on his twitter handle, the Minister of Health, Federal Ministry of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewale, said “Prof Chris Bode was in my office to collect his letter of appointment for a second term of four years following President Muhamadu Buhari’s approval.”
The Minister of health urged the reappointed CMD of LUTH to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in him.
Prof Bode was first appointed CMD of LUTH by the Federal Government of Nigeria on March 25, 2015.
Prior to his first appointment, Bode has acted as the CMD of LUTH, after the exit of the immediate past CMD, Prof Akin Osibogun, in 2014.
Bode, a 59-year old renowned Paediatric Surgeon, hails from Ejigbo, Osun state.
He obtained his MBCHB at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1980 and trained as a surgeon in LUTH from 1982-1990. He became a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons as well as Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in 1992.
He won many travel grants and awards, including the Sir Samuel Manuwa Memorial Award for the overall best candidate at the finals of the National Postgraduate Medical College (NPMCN) examinations in 1992.
He also trained in paediatric laparoscopy at the Schneider Children’s Hospital, Tel Aviv, Israel, and has had surgical training opportunities at the Manchester Children’s Hospital UK.
He joined the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos in November 1992 as a lecturer and was Honorary Consultant Paediatric Surgeon to LUTH, with special interest in neonatal oesophageal surgery and paediatric penile reconstruction. He rose to become Professor of Surgery in 2010.
Bode served LUTH as SERVCOM Nodal Officer from 2008-2012 and as Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee from 2012-14.
He had been Acting CMD for 6 months until his firs appointment in March 2015.
Bode is a widely travelled, consummate teacher and seasoned administrator, Prof Bode was Secretary General of the West African College of Surgeons from 2001-2007.
He was Treasurer of the Pan African Association of Surgeons (PAAS) and is a board member of the Pan African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS). He is married with children.”
