After one month in captivity, the eighty-year-old Mother of the Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government Betinah Benson was this Sunday reunited with her family in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The State’s Commissioner of Police, Echeng Eworo, said the command worked in synergy with other security agencies to enable the unconditional release of the octogenarian from her abductors.
Echeng further disclosed that some arrests were also made in connection with the kidnap, sending a warning to criminals to stay clear from the state, as the command was ready to ensure there was no hiding place for them.
Madam Betinah Benson was abducted by unidentified armed men on July 21, 2021 at the Old Legislative Quarters in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital.
The kidnappers who were dressed in military camouflage stormed the residence at about 10 pm and whisked the victim to an unknown destination.
The Bayelsa State Police Command, while confirming the incident had launched a manhunt for the rescue of Madam Benson and the arrest of the kidnappers.
State Police Commissioner Mike Okoli and other detectives visited the scene of the incident and ordered the investigation to be carried out.
