Attention Governor Sanwo-Olu: Ijegun, Ijagemo Residents Appeal For Completion Of Ijegun-Ijagemo Road
The Sorry Sight of The Abandoned Ijegun-Ijagemo Road after today’s rain.
The residents of Ijegun, Ijagemo and it’s environs in the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) are calling on the Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to see to the completion of the construction of the Ijegun-Ijagemo Road which had been abandoned since 2023.
They said the contractors that handled the construction of the road’s drainage system had left the site since 2023.
The residents of the area who spoke to our correspondent under the condition of anonymity, said the state of the road is affecting them and their business, exposing them to severe suffering.
They said apart from affecting their movements, the bad condition of the road is also affecting their business.
“Once it rains, the road becomes flooded, and once it is flooded, it becomes difficult for motorists and even ‘Okada’ to pass.
“Many times we have to trek from Ijagemu to Ijegun junction where we can find motor to go whatever we want to go and this is not easy for us.
“Passing through that road when it is flooded is dangerous because one can fall into the deep gutters left opened by the contractors and this also affects our children from going and coming back from school.
“When the construction of this road started, we were so excited that development has finally come to Ijagemo but little did we know that the road would be abandoned. It is over two years now since they started doing these gutters.
“We are using this medium to call on the governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to please use his good office and powers to see to the immediate completion of the road to put an end to the suffering the people are currently experiencing.”
One of them who identified himself as Mr. Thomas, said the condition of the road has been worsened now than before because of the expansion and deepening of the gutters.
“The road was even manageable before the commencement of the so called construction work. By then the gutters were not as big as it is now, and the volume and voracity of water was not as strong as it is now.
“The situation is further worsened because the gutters are not yet properly channeled, a lot of openings here and there thereby allowing water to flow into the main road, flooding and blocking the motorway.
“I hereby appeal to all those concerned in the signing of the contract for the construction of the road to please do something to make sure that the construction of the road is completed and commissioned, to ameliorate our suffering.”
