Anti-graft War: EFCC Seeks Collaboration With Lagos Radio Station
The Lagos Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has sought collaboration with the management of Bond FM 92.9, Lagos in the fight against economic and financial crimes and corruption.
The Head, EFCC Lagos Zonal Office, Ahmed Ghali, made the plea during a courtesy visit to the station’s General Manager, Adenike Adegoke, on Thursday, May 20, 2021.
Ghali specifically charged Nigerian youths to shun computer-related fraud, saying it has continued to give the country a bad image.
According to him, “ Without mincing words, we are here to activate a robust and complementary synergy that will promote the desired awareness and re-orientation of our people to buy into the fight against graft, while also fostering a positive attitudinal change.”
In her response, Adegoke assured the Commission of adequate support to tackle the menace, adding that “ it is a collective responsibility to make the country a better place for us all to live in.”
The visit also provided a platform for Ghali to further engage the public on the activities of the EFCC as he reiterated the efforts of the Commission to root out internet fraudsters from their hideouts.
Ghali, during interviews in English and Hausa, said: “ Today, the average Nigerian youth is tarred with the brush of an internet fraudster.”
“Yet, you will agree with me that it is just a few bad eggs that have given us this bad name.
“So, in line with our mandate at the EFCC, we have resolved to fish out all the bad eggs wherever they are.”
Ghali, who further noted that the Commission was also partnering with foreign law enforcement agencies, particularly the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Crimes Agency, lamented the “get-rich syndrome” among the Nigerian youth.
According to him, “We now have a situation in which so many of our youths want to become rich without lifting a pin.
“As a result of this, they toe the path of internet fraud, where with only a few clicks of the mouse they make dollars, particularly by defrauding foreigners.
“This is what we have found out from our experience and cases that we have investigated.
He further called on the public to support the EFCC’s fight against corruption, by providing credible information for the Commission to act on, and to be cautious of their activities on social media.
“The doors of the EFCC are ever open to anyone who has credible information for us to act on,” he said.
EFCC Seeks Navy’s Collaboration on Anti- Graft War
The Port Harcourt Zonal Head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Chief Detective Superintendent( CDS) Aliyu Naibi has called on officers and ratings of the Nigerian Navy, to join hands with the EFCC in tackling the menace of economic and financial crimes.
He made the call on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at the Nigerian Navy Intelligence School, Ubima, Rivers State, while delivering a lecture on the “History, Roles and Organization of the EFCC” to trainee officers and ratings of the Navy.
According to him, the task of combating corrupt practices required collaborative approaches and the trainee officers and ratings would be useful in pushing the frontiers of the anti-graft fight.
“Every success of the EFCC in its assigned mandate is a success of every Nigerian and this is why the Commission is employing collaborative approaches in carrying out its mandate. As young officers in training, the EFCC is positive that upon your graduation, you will join hands with it in ridding our country of all forms of economic and financial crimes”, he said.
Naibi took the trainee officers and ratings through the history; roles; structure, organisation and detailed works of the EFCC. He paid premium attention to the typology of economic and financial crimes being handled by the Commission, with specific reference to, emerging crimes like cryptocurrency fraud, Ponzi scheme scam, money laundering, illegal oil bunkering, among others. “We are determined to rid our nation of all these crimes”, he said.
Responding, Acting Deputy Commandant of the Naval School of Intelligence, Commodore A. Raji expressed satisfaction with the delivery of the lecture and the interactive session that followed. ” We found the lecture very stimulating and enlightening. We are going to partner more with the EFCC. No agency can do it alone”, he said.
The Naval trainees comprised 11 officers and 44 ratings.
