Club 9400 of Abeokuta Grammar School Old Boys’ Association (AGSOBA 9400) today instituted the first ever Agsoba 9400 Academic Prize.
The prize, which seeks to reward the most improved students across the three senior school departments, was conceived as the club’s way of motivating students with measurable academic growth over a specific session. Giving further details of the idea behind the prizes, President of the Club, Mr Bankole Banjo, said: “Usually, at almost all prize-giving ceremonies, only the best are rewarded. But as a club, we thought to do it differently by rewarding those set of students who might not necessarily be the best but had demonstrated stand-out improvement in their academics over three terms. This is our way of encouraging them to do more and become even better than they were. The Agsoba 9400 Academic Prize will be an annual prize with a dedicated Education Committee, chaired by Dr Oluwaseun Salako, saddled with the task of running it.
At the ceremony which held at the school’s Agsoba Hall, the Principal of the senior school, Mr Oludare Shorinola, thanked Agsoba 9400 for the initiative and wished the club the very best in her commitment to the development of their alma mater.
Nine students across the Arts, Commercial and Sciences were rewarded with cash prizes, a stack of textbooks covering core and general subjects, a winner’s plaque and a letter of congratulations signed by the Club President and the Chair, Agsoba 9400 Education Committee. The winners are Ajayi Kolajo Eniola, David Awolowo, Ogundimu Tunmise Sarah all of the Sciences; Shittu Michael Boluwatife, Akinbola Israel Oluwadamilare, Junaid Islamiat Olamide of the Arts department; and Morenikeji Quadri Gbolahan, Akogun Rofiat Adejoke, Abayomi Adetayo Florence of the Commercial department.
Abeokuta Grammar School Old Boys Association is the umbrella body of all former students of the famous Abeokuta Grammar School. Recently, the school celebrated its 111th Founder’s Day Anniversary and posthumously awarded the Association’s highest honour of Distinguished Agsoba (DA) to renowned social crusader and musician Olufela Anikulapo-Kuti.
