Yahaya Bello tasks BON on promoting culture

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State

Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has charged the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria(BON) to prevail on proprietors and management of broadcast stations in Nigeria to provide airtime and create content for cultural programmes on their stations.

Yahaya Bello gave the charge at the 2020 Annual Convention of the Igala Cultural Development Association, ICDA in Anyigba last weekend.

The Governor noted that such steps will go a long way to address the loss of Nigerian cultural values which he said could be greatly enhanced by community journalism.

Governor Bello was represented at the event where a new Board of Trustee was inaugurated by his Deputy, Edward Onoja,

According to Onoja, Nigerian cultural values will remain potent and better preserved if the media allocate more airtime to cultural programmes that teach morals.

He said the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello has a lot of respect for culture and tradition which explains its decision to lift the ban on the Ocho Festival after more than fifty years.

ICDA President, Abubakar Sadiq and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Professor Stephen Ocheni called for reconciliation and resolution of all conflicts within the Igala nation.

Others stressed the importance of culture as a veritable tool to tackle insecurity and foster peace in the society.

The State Government however hinted plans to remodel the burial grounds of two Igala princesses, Inikpi Oma ufedo Attah and Omodoko allegedly sacrificed for peace in Igala.
