3000 beneficiaries in Bayelsa to receive CBN agricultural loan
The Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) Agricultural accelerated development scheme in collaboration with the Bayelsa state government is set to empower farmers in the area of fishery, cassava and rice cultivation.
The shortlisted beneficiaries are undergoing a one-day training in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Speaking to the beneficiaries the Head development of CBN, Yenagoa office, Mr. Stanley Oruyeigha, admonished the participants to take the scheme seriously as they were lucky to be selected to participate in the scheme.
According to him, the collaboration between the CBN and the Bayelsa state government was to ensure massive production of rice which will be tagged “BaRice”.
Mr. Oruyeigha commended the state governor, Senator Douye Diri, for keying into the scheme by paying the counterpart funds.
He said CBN is embarking on the scheme in conjunction with the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and National Resources Mr. Mightyman Dikuro, who stood in for the state government said the loan after the training, would come in the form of seedlings and inputs, and not cash.
He further said some of the participating farmers would be encouraged to form clusters and cooperative farms to enable them meet the set targets.
