The Chairman of the umbrella body for all insurance and reinsurance companies in Nigeria, Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) Mr. Ganiyu Musa will assume chairmanship of Council of Bureaux of Ecowas Brown Card Scheme during its forthcoming General Conference in October this year.
The immediate past Chairman of the Association, Mr Tope Smart, disclosed this while presenting his reports and account (2019/2020) at the Association’s 49th Annual General Meeting held recently through zoom conferencing, adding that this is because at the sub-regional level, Nigeria continues to be the leading light in the activities of the Ecowas Brown Card Scheme.
He said Mr Ganiyu Musa will become the second chairman of the Association to occupy the exalted position after Venerable O.O. Ladipo-Ajayi who held the position in 2012 and wished him God’s guidance and a most rewarding tenure in office.
Mr Smart said during the period under review, the Association has improved on its existing relationship with other trade and professional bodies in the insurance industry.
“The Association continues to participate actively in the activities of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) including the yearly Family Picnic and Insurance Fitness Walk.
“The Association’s collaboration with Brokers under the auspices of their umbrella body, the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) with a view to building consensus on matters of mutual interest is an ongoing one, Mr Smart said.
He added that the Joint NIA/NCRIB Committee will continue to interface on a regular basis to discuss and reach understanding on topical industry issues, adding that the Association was well represented at the investiture of the president of the NCRIB, Dr. (Mrs.) Bola Onigbogi, and the investiture of Mr Reginald Egbuniwe as the president of Institute of Loss Adjusters of Nigeria (ILAN).
“We will also continue to support and participate in the market development and awareness creation initiatives of the Association of Registered Insurance Agents (ARIAN). We look forward to a more robust and mutually beneficial relationship with all the various umbrella bodies and the Institute, he stated.
