The International Association of Lions Clubs District 404A1 Nigeria has donated medical supplies worth N4 million to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) as part of their support for the centre in its fight against COVID-19.

The donation, according to Lions, is in recognition of the Centre’s prime position in the fight against coronavirus otherwise known as COVID-19 as a Central public health laboratory in Lagos being the epic centre of the pandemic.

The donation was made on Thursday, May 28, at the Central Public Health Laboratory, NCDC, Yaba, Lagos.

Speaking before presenting the materials to the representative of the Director General, NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, Deputy Director/Head, Central Public Health Laboratory, NCDC, Mrs Olajumoke Babatunde, the District Governor-Elect, District 404A1, Lion Tokunbo Aromolaran, commended the efforts of the centre in the fight to curb the spread of the virus and expressed optimism that the little donation from the Lions will motivate them to do more in realization of our collective desires to completely conquer COVID-19 in Nigeria.

Materials donated included among others, nose masks; hand sanitizers; hand gloves, medical face masks and viral containers.

Also speaking, the past International Director and Chairman of the Nigerian Lions Charity Foundation (NLCF), Lions (Engr) Hamed Olugbenga Babajide Lawal, said the donation was to ensure the safety of the frontline health workers and other professionals responsible in the fight against the deadly virus, noting that when the frontline health workers are protected they will live to save the lives of others.

He also appealed to Nigerians not to abuse the ongoing gradual relaxation of lockdown, but ensure continued adherence to preventive measures as directed by governments, Ministry of Health and other government institutions and agencies just as he expressed displeasure on the continued rise in the number of infected persons.

In her response after talking possession of the items, the Deputy Director/Head, Central Public Health Laboratory, NCDC, Yaba, Lagos, Mrs Olajumoke Babatunde, thanked the Lions for their donation assuring them for proper and judicious use, even as she said that NCDC was proud to be associated with the Lions.

While soliciting for more supports from the Lions and other non-governmental and corporate organizations, the Head of Lagos office, promised to communicate the Lions’ gesture to DG, whom she said based in Abuja.

The publisher and Chief Executive Officer, Brand Point Media Magazine and a Public Speaker, Lion Blessing Umebali, was the Media Coordinator for the event.

It should be recalled that on May 8, 2020, Lions Clubs District 404B1 had also donated similar materials worth N4m to the Government House, Marina, Lagos.
