Miyetti Allah seeks members’ inclusion in Operation Amotekun
Against earlier rumour that it would not support the South-West security outfit, codenamed Operation Amotekun, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Oyo State, yesterday expressed its supports for the Oyo State Security Network.
The former Chairman of the association in the state, Alhaji Yakubu Bello, who was at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan venue of the public hearing organised by the Oyo State House of Assembly on Amotekun bill, denied the insinuation in some quarters that the bill was specifically targeted at the cattle breeders.
He said: ”The bill was not targeted at anybody. Those that are peddling the rumours are the real trouble makers and enemy of progress.”
Bello added that Amotekun will provide the enabling environment and security for the cattle breeders to do their work without any fear of being attacked.
He described the Fulani herdsmen as peace loving , but admitted that in every society there must bad eggs.
In attendance at the public hearing are Yoruba interest groups led by Professor Banji Akintoye; members of various groups such as Farmers Association of Nigeria; the Police, Vigilante Association of Nigeria; Odua Peoples Congress (OPC); National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) amongst others.
While many of the invited stakeholders made input as to how to better and improve the provisions of the proposed law to back up the operations of the Amotekun Corps, the cattle breeders made case for the enlisting of non-Yorubas as operatives of the Corps.
The event facilitated by the Oyo state House of Assembly Committee on Security and Strategy led by Mr. Akeem Obadara. He said that the bill sought to share intelligence about crime, criminal activities, collaborate with similar Security Network agencies, assist in protecting lives and property within the state among others.
Speaker of the Oyo Assembly, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin, commended Governor Seyi Makinde led administration in combating the various security challenges facing the state, while thanking the Southwest Governors for initiating the security Network and the attendance efforts of the Speakers in the regional Houses of Assembly at ensuring that the required legislation to let the idea fly are enacted.
