Glo celebrates three outstanding African artists
Two artists and one photographer who are exemplars of industry and commitment to their passion will be celebrated in this week’s edition of CNN African Voices sponsored by telecommunications giant, Globacom.
They are a resident of Johannesburg, South Africa named Tumelo Mosaka and Gala Yousif who is based in Khartoum, Sudan. The third personality is Paul Choy, a citizen of Mauritius whose speciality is iconic photography.
Mosaka, a world renowned curator would deploy his skills to highlight contemporary African art. The South African is reputed for exploring global and transnational artistic productions especially from Africa, the Caribbeans and North America exploring themes such as identity, racial injustice and migration.
32 year-old Galal Yousif will be speaking on arts, sculpture and painting. Throwing more light on her passion, the Arts graduate of Sudan University said “I draw to feel that I am doing a little change in my life. Even, if it is just a bit”.
Choy who disclosed that he never planned to become a photographer will however avail viewers the opportunity of perusing the island of Mauritius through a photographer’s eyes as he captures the daily life of its residents.
He said: “I never planned on becoming a photographer. It happened completely by accident. Ever since I was a small child, I always wanted to be an explorer, enjoying nothing better than just discovering something new. But what use is knowledge unless it is shared?”
Also an artist and writer, Choy is reputed for his annotated pictures with pithy titles. According to him, he started his career by carrying cameras everywhere he went in order to capture the stories and freeze the images of people and places for posterity.
