Wang Yi Holds Talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs
State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi, who was in Vietnam for an official visit, held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh of Vietnam.
Wang Yi expressed that I was sent to visit Vietnam soon after the establishment of the new Chinese government, fully demonstrating the great importance the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government attach to China-Vietnam relations.
At present, China-Vietnam relations have showed a positive momentum of development. General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Tran Dai Quang realized historic mutual visits last year, which have charted the course for the development of China-Vietnam relations in the new era from a strategic height.
Under the strategic guidance of the high-level leaders of the two parties and countries, the bilateral cooperation has achieved leapfrog development. This year bears special and important significance for the development of both China and Vietnam and for the bilateral relations.
China is willing to work with Vietnam to comprehensively implement the important results yielded from General Secretary Xi Jinping’s visit to Vietnam last year and the political consensus reached by the high-level leaders of the two parties and countries, and bring China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to new heights.
The two sides should well plan the high-level exchanges and strengthen party-to-party exchanges, and communication in defense, law enforcement and security and at local levels. Both sides should accelerate the substantive alignment between the “Belt and Road” and “Two Corridors and One Economic Circle”, and well push forward practical cooperation in various areas, particularly cooperation in such important projects as infrastructure, production capacity and cross-border economic cooperation zone. The two sides should also intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges and manage differences properly so as to further cement the public opinion foundation for the bilateral relations.
Pham Binh Minh warmly congratulated China on its successful convening of the Two Sessions, and extended gratitude to China for its support for Vietnam’s organization of the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Summit. Pham Binh Minh noted that the top leaders of the two parties and countries realized historic mutual visits last year, which have promoted cooperation in such areas as economy and trade, defense, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges for remarkable outcomes, thus making the year 2017 an extraordinary year for Vietnam-China relations.
It is both a historical responsibility and an inevitable requirement to consolidate and strengthen Vietnam-China traditional friendship, which serves the interests of the two countries and is conducive to regional peace and stability. Vietnam is willing to coordinate closely with China to actively implement the high-level consensus, bring the coordination and facilitation roles of the Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation into better play, cement the strategic alignment between the “Two Corridors and One Economic Circle” and the “Belt and Road”, constantly promote practical cooperation in various fields and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and properly address the maritime issues, so as to push Vietnam-China friendly cooperative relations for new development.
