Ikeja Metro Lions Club is Upbeat for Impactful Humanitarian Services Says President

Lion John Lucky Oriazowan, is the 18th President, Ikeja Metro Lions Club. His public presentation and installation of other officers of the club holds today (November 9) at the popular Solab Hotels & Suites, Ikeja. In this interview, he speaks on the activities of his club during the first quarter of 2019/2020 Lions service year and his plans going forward. He said the club is ready for impactful humanitarian services. Excerpts.
How did you get to know about Lions Club?
I was introduced into the association in 2014 by Lion Blessing Umebali who was the Club president then.
What and what motivated you to join the Lions Club and when and where?
Passion for social service and commitment to philanthropic work.
As a President of one of the most popular Lions Clubs in the District, you are in the second quarter of your tenure, what are those things you intend to do in line with LCI vision to impact your community?
Ours is a service -oriented association. We will ensure that we effectively deliver our services in line with the frame work of the association. In December, we will participate in feeding the hungry programme where we will be giving foods and food materials to the less privileged persons We also hope to take part in funds raising for the building of Optomology Center in Ile Ife, Osun State.
How can you describe your 1st Quarter so far?
So far, our first quarter has really been very impressive.
What are the projects or services activities carried out by your club so far?
During the period under review, we have been able to carry out the following projects and services activities: In July we carried out a cleaning exercise and also donated cleaning materials to Ifako Ijaiye Primary Health Center, Ogba.
In August, 2019 we had youth empowerment programme where participants were exposed to skills acquisition training at Women Development Center Agege, Lagos and we also donated sewing machine, Hair dressing dryer, clippers, hat and bead making materials to various beneficiaries.
In September we also had a childhood cancer awareness programme at Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Health Center, Oritse Street Ikeja, Lagos and made donations of heightening and Weighing scale, Blood Pressure monitor and a signage of Things to be aware of.
In October which was a vision project, our club carried out an awareness campaign on preventable blindness, gave out cane to the visually impaired to commemorate white Cane Safety Day and also carried out free glaucoma operations for several persons at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching hospital, Ile Ife, Osun State.
On November 9th, we will be joining the International Diabetes Federation to screen one billion people with diabetes at Solab Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
Will you say these activities have been impactful to the communities?
Of course. All our activities are impactable activities, carefully executed to improve quality of life in our community.
November is World Diabetes month what initiatives are you bringing to bare to educate the populace about it?
As said earlier, our association is partnering with the International Diabetes Federation to screen one billion people with diabetes. We will be doing this on the 9th of November at Solab Hotel to commemorate the World Diabetes Day holding on 14th of November.
Let’s talk about your forthcoming presentation this Saturday what is the essence of public presentation of a president and why do you raise funds?
The essence of the presentation is to raise funds for club projects and also raise funds for the building of Optomology Center in ILe ife, Osun State
Finally who are those that have inspired your association?
Honestly, several persons have truly inspired us. I must say Air Vice Marshall Anthony Okpere is one of them. In fact, he is a major source of inspiration. He has been a wonderful father whose words will keep you thinking.
What are your parting words especially to those who may like to share your vision and that of the Lions Club?
I wish to use this opportunity to implore other well meaning Nigerians to be diligent and be ready to positively help their communities in doing those things that the government cannot do immediately. I am inviting them to come and Join the Lions Clubs so that together we can serve in love.
