In her opening remarks, the Corporate Communications/Public Affairs Manager at Nestle Nigeria, Mrs. Victoria Uwadoka, said the award will continue to honour those who have demonstrated outstanding feats in reporting, investigative journalism, and feature writing etc.

According to her, “We are excited to host the 3rd edition of Nestlé Nigeria Media Awards. This platform allows us to acknowledge and appreciate the invaluable role that journalists play in shaping public opinion and driving positive change in our society.

“Nestlé Nigeria remains committed to supporting the media industry and promoting the highest standards of journalism. The Media Awards serve as a testament to this commitment, providing a platform for us to highlight and reward the exceptional talent and professionalism of journalists in Nigeria.”

‘It is our way to help build skills, and improve our reporting standards to compete globally,” Victoria Uwadoka said.

She said the awards cover categories aligned with Nestlé’s focus areas, including Affordable Nutrition, Environmental Sustainability, Access to Water, Improving Household Incomes, Youth Empowerment, Women Empowerment, Finance, Building Thriving Communities, Agriculture, Nutrition Education for Children and wash, published in print, online or broadcast channels.

A Faculty Member at the Lagos Business School (LBS) Dr. Austin Nweze, who led the Panel of Judges, said the 118 entries received were all wonderful.

He said the entries gave them a tough time to arrive at the possible winner thereby making the panel of judges resort to looking at grammatical and sentence constructions to select the winners, noting that all the entries were winning entries.

Also speaking, a member of the panel of judges who is also a retired nutritionist, Africa Manager with the Nestle Nutrition Institute, Dr. Chioma Emma-Nwachukwu, commended all those who submitted their entries for the awards, describing them as winners.

She said that the reason why some people did not win was that they did not follow the rules and because of that there was no reason for assessing those entries, she appealed to participants to always follow the laid down rules and standards set for the awards.

“We also saw some people repeating what Nestle has given to them, therefore making their entries to have no depth, no extra or additional information … By researching, you can give more than what Nestle has given you, and it makes your entry more robust….” Dr. Emma=Nwachukuw said.

All the winners expressed excitement and thanked Nestle Nigeria for the honour done to them.
