National Insurance Conference 2023: NAICOM To Discuss How To Redefine Safety Standards
The Nigeria insurance industry’s primary regulator, National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) is set for its 2023 national conference.
The conference which is scheduled to take place at the Abuja Continental Hotel from October 22-24, 2023, is themed “Redefining Safety – Insurance Solutions For Public Buildings and Buildings Under Construction.”
Discussions at the conference will centre on how to redefine safety standards with a special focus on insurance solutions for public buildings and buildings under construction as well as on how to ensure enforcement of the compulsory insurances.
President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to grace the occasion as a Special Guest of Honour.
While the Minister of Finance, Mr. Olawale Edun will be the Chief Host, the Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer, National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olorundare Sunday Thomas will be the Host.
Those expected to speak at the occasion include the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Guest Speaker) and Chairman, Heirs Holdings and UBA Group, Mr. Tony Elumelu, who will deliver the theme paper.
Other speakers are the President, Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) Mr Johnbull Amayaebo, Chief Executive Officer, FSD Africa, Mr. Mark Napie .
Other top government functionaries expected to attend the epoch event are The Federal Ministers, State Governors, State Commissioners of Works and Housing, and Dignified Royal Fathers.
NAICOM CEO, Mr. Thomas commenting on the conference said the National Insurance Conference is a pivotal gathering that brings together industry leaders, experts, and forward-thinkers not merely to discuss but to usher in a new era of collaboration, one where insights are transformed into actionable strategies that redefine safety standards.

Mr. Elumelu, the theme paper presenter will step into the dynamic world of insurance strategies dedicated to fortifying the safety of public buildings and those under construction.
On “The State And Insurance Of Public Buildings And Buildings Under Construction: The Lagos Experience,” the Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwo, will discuss on the critical role of state governance in ensuring the safety and security of buildings linking this to how Lagos State, a vibrant urban hub, tackles the complexities of insurance and construction practices to protect its citizens and assets.
The session on “Imperative for Insurance of Government Assets at All Levels,” which will be moderated by the Publishers Businessday Newspaper, Mr. Frank Aigbogun, will uncover the imperatives, challenges, and best practices surrounding the insurance of government assets. The discourse will gain insights into policy formulation, risk assessment, and the collaborative efforts of stakeholders in ensuring the protection and continuity of government resources.
The conference will also feature exhibition stands for insurance industry innovators. This will provide a unique platform for insurance companies to shine as they present their cutting-edge products and solutions.
