Newly Appointed FIRS Acting Chairman Assumes Office
The newly appointed Mr. Zacchaeus A. Adedeji has officially resumed duties as the Acting Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) at its headquarters in Abuja.
The transition follows the departure of the outgoing Chairman, Mr. Muhammed Nami, who is proceeding on terminal leave immediately.
Thenewsstar.com reported that in a symbolic gesture of the seamless transfer of leadership, Mr Nami has formally handed over the reins to Mr Adedeji.
Adedeji brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role, and his tenure as the Acting Chairman will be marked by expectations of innovation and efficiency in tax administration.
At the age of 33, he was appointed by the late former governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, as the Commissioner for Finance; making him (Adedeji) the youngest person ever to hold such a postion in the state. He served in this capacity from 2011-2015.
Before his appointment as the FIRS acting chair, Adedeji was the Special Adviser (Revenue) to the President.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has, on Thursday, September 14, 2023, approved the appointment of Hon. Zacch Adedeji as the new Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
In a statement signed by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, the erstwhile FIRS Chairman, Mr. Muhammad Nami, was directed to proceed on three months of pre-retirement leave, as provisioned by Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243, with immediate effect, leading to his eventual retirement from service on December 8, 2023.
“Hon. Zacch Adedeji is hereby appointed in acting capacity for a 90-day period before his subsequent confirmation as the substantive Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service for a term of four (4) years in the first instance.
“Hon. Zacch Adedeji is a first-class graduate in accounting from the Obafemi Awolowo University.
“He most recently served the nation as the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, following meritorious service terms as the Oyo State Commissioner of Finance and as the Executive Secretary / CEO of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC).
“By these directives of the President, the new appointment takes immediate effect,” the statement stated.
