Senators across political party lines from different geopolitical zones of Nigeria have felicitated with the Muslim faithful in the country on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and prayed to the Almighty Allah to accept their sacrifices.

They also urged Muslims to support the President Bola Tinubu administration in its determination to address the social and economic crisis confronting the nation.

The senators are the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, Ahmad Lawan (Yobe North), Sani Musa (Niger East), Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North), Opeyemi Bamidele, (Ekiti Central), Godiya Akwashiki (Nasarawa North) and Ali Ndume (Borno South).

Others included Abdulfatai Buhari (Oyo North), Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) Gbenga Daniel (Ogun East), Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo South) and Senator Garba Musa Madoki (Kebbi South)

They made the appeal in separate statements made available to THISDAY in Abuja Thursday.

The federal lawmakers admonished privileged Muslims to remember the less privileged members of the society by extending hands of friendship to them on this occasion.

Musa specifically remembered victims of bandit attacks in his senatorial district and commiserated with them once again.

He assured them that the Tinubu administration had put necessary machinery in motion to solve the unfortunate development.

He said: “I am aware that the last few weeks have been periods of uncertainty, fears and series of attacks by bandits and gunmen which have made life very unbearable for a lot of our people.

“This has resulted also in their inability to perform their fundamental rights to freedom as enshrined in our constitution and apart from losing their loved ones some were maimed.

“However, I  assure you that the government is on top of the situation as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown the capacity to tackle the myriad of problems facing many parts of the country.”

He expressed confidence that “the newly appointed service chiefs and the Inspector General of Police would soon add impetus to the fight against insecurity in  parts of our state and the country in general”.

Bamidele charged Nigerians to shed the toga of religious intolerance and extremism and unite solidly behind the administration of President Tinubu to actualise Nigeria’s greatness.

He warned that no nation parading the emblem of religious fanaticism would ever achieve prosperity.

He said the time was ripe for people of diverse religious inclinations to focus on project Nigeria and exhibit their desires to contribute to its radical development.

Other senators expressed confidence and hope that the nation would witness drastic change with the new administration led by Tinubu.

They urged adherents of the Islamic faith and other Nigerians to imbibe the lessons of sacrifice, faithfulness, steadfastness, obedience and perseverance taught by the life and time of Prophet Muhammed (SWT).

They said Tinubu had promised to make Nigeria a great and prosperous nation, and reminded Nigerians that stoking of religious intolerance could quake the foundation being laid by the present administration.

They said: “We have a duty to make this country safe and prosperous for all of us and this can only be accomplished with unanimity of purpose and convergence of thoughts and ideas.

“President Tinubu came with the popular mantra of a Renewed Hope and this has started manifesting by the deft political steps he had taken to mend the already cracked and widened ethnic and religious fault lines.

“This manifested in the way he supported Senator Godswill Akpabio to emerge the Senate President and  magnanimously ceded the Secretary to the Government of the Federation slot to Christians to balance the Muslim-Muslim ticket at the presidency.

“All the president needed from all Nigerians as the father of the nation is coalition of efforts with him for the realization of his promise to bring prosperity to the doorstep of every Nigerian, which will impact our lives positively, irrespective of religious leanings.”
