Lagos Calls For Synergy Among Professionals In The Built Sector
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins has urged Town Planners with the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) to continue to work hand-in-hand with other relevant professionals in the built sector in implementing Physical Planning, Urban Development and Urban renewal policies and programmes for residents of the State.
Bamgbose-Martins stated this in his address at the opening ceremony of a Retreat organised by LASPPPA for District Officers, Directors and Heads of Unit, with the theme: “Sustainable Environment and Role of Town Planners in Lagos” held in the Epe area of the State.
He tasked LASPPPA officials to use the retreat as an opportunity for robust discussions and planning to tackle emerging issues in the profession.
He said that the realisation of the vision of the State Government for the State’s built industry can only be realised if relevant professionals including Town Planners abide by the changes in their respective professions and cooperate.
According to him, it is important for all stakeholders in the construction industry to have attitudinal change and always act as ambassadors of the State in order to have safer and more habitable structures across the Lagos metropolis.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on e-GIS & Planning Matters, Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde in his presentation, explained the benefits of using technology for processing Planning Permit and other tasks requiring land information in Lagos State.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Olumide Sotire expressed the hope for cooperation among LASPPPA officials and all the Agencies under the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to leave a worthy legacy behind.
Earlier, the General Manager of LASPPPA, Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike said the retreat was carefully packaged as a way of reviewing the practices, policies and processes of LASPPPA, while also repositioning its operations for a more effective service delivery for residents of the State.
He disclosed that it is pertinent for the Authority to identify, streamline and operationalise practicable strategies for the optimisation of the benefits of change efforts and development initiatives for the sustainable development of Lagos State.
Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike told participants at the retreat to work on their social relationship skills and explore Emotional Intelligence to facilitate better public understanding of Physical Planning laws of the State.
