APC, PDP clinch more Reps, Assembly seats
A journalist was among nine winners of Saturday’s supplementary elections announced yesterday in eight states by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC also named 15 candidates of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Labour Party(LP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) as winners of Houses of Assembly rerun polls in seven states.
The nationonlineng.net reported that the House of Representatives members-elect are a former Editor of the Source magazine, Afam Ogene(LP, Anambra State); Dunameme Dekor and Blessing Amadi(PDP, Rivers); Rodney Ambaiowe(PDP, Bayelsa); Billy Osawaru(APC, Edo); Joseph Nwobashi(APGA, Ebonyi); Mohammed Shehu(NNPP, Kano) Sani Nazif(APC, Jigawa) and Mark Useni(APC, Taraba).
The rerun in Ikono/Ini federal constituency in Akwa Ibom State was cancelled due to wide spread violence. A National Youth Service Corps member, who served as INEC ad-hoc staff member, was shot in the leg by suspected political thugs.
In the seven states where The Nation reporters also monitored the announcements of the Houses of Assembly results, the APC had seven seats; PDP, five; LP, one and APGA,one.
The states are Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Enugu, Taraba, and Kaduna.
In Anambra, Ogene won in Ogbaru Federal Constituency supplementary by beating PDP, APGA and APC candidates. .

He polled 10,851 votes as against the 10,619 votes scored by his closest rival, Chukwuma Onyema of the PDP.
APGA’s Arinze Awogu scored 10,155 votes while Nkechi Isamade of the APC had 303 votes,
In Enugu State, LP’s candidate for River State Constituency, Osita Eze, defeated his PDP opponent, Jeff Mbah.
PDP wins Southern Ijaw, APC picks Ogbia in Bayelsa
Ambaiowei was declared as the winner of the Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency election. According to the result declared by the Returning Officer, Christopher Onyema, Ambaiowei, polled 13,992 votes to defeat the incumbent member of the House of Representatives, Preye Oseke, of the APC who scored 12,992 votes.
Also, INEC declared APC candidate, Obein Godknows, as winner of the Ogbia Constituency 2 supplementary election into the House of Assembly.
Godknows got 5,291 votes to defeat incumbent legislator, Munalayefa Gibson of the PDP, who had 4,342 votes.
PDP candidates win in Rivers
The Rivers State chapter of the PDP sustained its grip of the state’s politics by winning the two supplementary elections in Khana-Gokhana Federal Constituency and Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 2.
Dekor won the Khana/Gokhana Federal Constituency and Amadi in Port Harcourt 2.
The candidate for the APC, Collyns Owhondah, withdrew from the race about 24 hours to the election, renounced his membership of the APC and joined the PDP.
Owhondah cited lack of focus, seriousness, and insensitivity of APC leadership in the state as reason for his actions.
Edo: PDP, APC coast to victory in Edo
In the supplementary election in Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde Federal Constituency of Edo State, APC’s Osawaru emerged victorious.
PDP’s Destiny Enabulele, Natasha Osawaru, and Uyi Omosigho were declared winners in Ovia Southwest, Egor and Oredo East state constituencies
But the state chapter of the LP called on INEC to cancel the elections in Oredo East and Egor constituencies. It described the polls as a charade which must not stand.
Its chairman, Kelly Ogbaloi , told reporters in Benin, that fierce-looking young men denied supporters of the party access to the polling areas.
He said: “We have come today (yesterday) as LP, to dissociate ourselves from the charade they call election in Oredo East and Egor constituencies. They introduced brigandage into the election. LP is not part of the charade.
“A poll where we were totally refused participation cannot be said to be an election. Some officials of LP were beaten and lying in the hospital. Only officials of PDP government in Edo State were allowed into the polling units. Persons who attempted to vote for LP were beaten up, their clothes torn, and pushed out.”
APGA wins Ebonyi Rep seat
APGA’s Nwobashi defeated PDP and APC candidates in Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State.
He polled 11,890 votes against PDP candidate’s 11,150 votes and Alo’s 1088 votes.
INEC also declared Victor Nwoke of the PDP as the winner of the Abakaliki North State Constituency election.
Nwoke defeated Governor Dave Umahi’s aide, Maxwell Umahi(APC), to clinch the position. Nwoke garnered 5,988 votes while Maxwell had 5,664.
Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly Kingsley Ikoro of the APC was declared the winner of in Afikpo North West State Constituency.
Ikoro garnered 5012 votes to defeat Ogbonnia Oko- Enyim, a former Afikpo North Local Government chairman, who garnered 4059 votes.
In Afikpo South East, Igwe Orji of the APC defeated Chidi Ejem of PDP.
In Ezza South, Ogbuewu Friday of the APC beat Ifeanyi Nworie of the PDP.
Ifeanyi Nwakpu of the APC won in Ikwo North State Constituency by defeating Humphrey Nwuruku of the PDP.
APC produces Rep in Jigawa:
APC’s House of Representatives candidate for Gumel, Gagarawa,Suletankar, Maigatari Federal Constituency, Nazif beat PDP’s Ahmed Gumel. He scored 49,893 votes as against Gumel’s 46,537.
Winners of the state House of Assembly seats are Ishaq Tasiu and Muhd Ado Zoto of the APC. Tasiu scored 31,311 to defeated Adamu Zai of the PDP who polled 28,656 votes . Zoto garnered 9,479 votes as against PDP’s Abdullahi Musa’s 5,606 votes.
PDP’s candidate, Ibrahim Kabir won in Birnin kudu local government supplementary election with 36,050 votes , He defeated the incumbent member, Muhd Suraja of the APC . Saraja scored 34,545 votes.
NNPP wins in Kano
NNPP’s Shehu, who is popularly known as M.B Shehu, unseated the incumbent House of Representatives member, Aminu Goro of APC . Goro, who is serving his third term at the National Assembly.
Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Tajo Suraj, who announced the result, said Shehu polled 19, 024 votes. He was followed by Shuaibu Abubakar of LP who polled 12, 789 votes.
* Taraba EX- Speaker, APGA candidate win in Taraba
A former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Mark Useni emerged winner in the supplementary election for Ussa, Donga, Takum Federal constituency.
The Returning Officer, Luka Juma, while declaring the result of the election stated that Useni of the APC polled 25,929 to win the election.
NNPP’s candidate and a serving member of the House of Representatives for the Ussa, Takum, Donga, Rimam Shawulu scored, 25,350 to come second while the candidate of the PDP, Istifanus Gbana, had 20,234 .
Also, APGA candidate for Karim 2 State Constituency of Taraba State, Anas Shuaibu, was declared winner . .
Shuaibu had 7,104 votes to defeat his closest opponent Bobbo Bendu of the PDP who 6,589 votes.
He called on the people of Karim 2 to give him the needed support and prayers to succeed.
APC candidate coasts to victory in Kaduna
Abbas Faisal of the APC won the election for Kudan House of Assembly seat in Kaduna State.
INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Dauda Aminu, declared the results in Hunkuyi , saying that Faisal scored 22,993 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nura Abdulkarim of the PDP , who polled 22,878 votes.
He added that Sulaiman Umar of the LP scored 1,463 votes and Shehu Doka of the NNPP, 1,058 votes.
Also, Haliru Dangana of the APC was declared winner of the Sanga constituency seat.
Dangana polled 13, 883 votes to defeat Comfort Amwe of the PDP who scored 13, 275 votes.
*INEC cancels Rerun poll in Akwa Ibom
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Akwa Ibom, Cyril Omorogbe, said the election was cancelled in all the 17 polling units due to snatching of electoral materials, including Bimodal Voters Accreditation Machine System (BVAS).
Omorogbe said: “They were fighting all through the local government areas in the 17 polling units.
“The whole exercise was either hijacked, disrupted, or people were being chased and other things of that nature.
“The collation officers on the field all came back and have written reports and the result sheets. Apparently, there was no election.
