Arepo Golden Lions Club Celebrates Lion Catherine Obajuwana

The Arepo Golden Lions Club, District 404A1, Nigeria under the International Association of Lions Club, has formally presented Lion Catherine Obajuwana as the Club’s third President to the public amidst celebration and fanfare.
In an elaborate investiture ceremony organized on her honour by the Club at Presken Hotel, Awolowo Road, Ikeja, Lagos recently was also used for the installation of other officers of the club and fund raising for the club’s activities for 2018/2019 Lions year.
The District Governor, District 404A1, Nigeria, Lion (Sir) Monday Oyeme, in his congratulatory message to the new President of Arepo Golden Lions Club, Lion Catherine Obajuwana, expressed confident that she (Lion Catherine) will adhere to the multiple District Bye-Laws and Lions Club International Laws in carrying out all her club activities particularly in the five core areas of childhood cancer; diabetes; hunger relief; giving vision to people with eye problem and taking care of the environment.
He also encouraged the President to support the Lions Eye Center in Abuja and areas of distress across Nigeria by contributing to the Nigerian Lions Charity Foundation (NLCF) as well as contributing to the Melvin Jones Fellowship (MJF).
The District Governor urged the President and other members of Arepo Golden Lions Club to take advantage of all the leadership trainings in the region, the district, and multiple district; all Africa and lions clubs international convention to empower themselves, noting that this in turn will reflect on the club’s ability to empower others.
The Chairman of the occasion, Dr. David Imuse, who described Lions Club as a globally known humanitarian organization that takes the welfare of the less privileged in the community as its priority, said that many who associate with this very noble organization are people who appreciate the need to give to charity and support selfless service projects like the ones proposed by Arepo Golden Lions Club.
In her acceptance speech, Lions Catherine Obajuwana said she has accepted to serve the Club as the President, called on all to support the club to achieve its objectives.
Her words: “…Beyond this ceremony of handing the baton of leadership to me and my team, lies a dire need for the objectives of the Arepo Golden Lions Club to be met through rendering selfless service to the community and touching the lives of less privileged in the society.
“These can only be done if and when we financially commit to charity through noble causes like these. Together, we can put smiles on the faces of many, give hope to the hopeless and share love abroad. Together we can render selfless service through committing our finances to impactful community projects. Alone we can do so little, together, we can do so much.”
According the President some of the projects earmarked for execution during 2018/2019 Lions year include: free eye screening and donation of eye glasses to the visually impaired; breast cancer/cervical/prostate cancer awareness and treatment; sponsorship of eye surgery for the less privileged and visually impaired; donations to patients of Public Health institutions; donations to residents Homes for abandoned elderly persons.
Others are tree planting and campaign for the protection of the Ozone layer; sinking of borehole in a needy community; donation of needed items to students of public schools; diabetes awareness programme and a lot more.
Lion Catherine called on well-meaning Nigerians including good corporate citizens to donate towards helping the club to achieve these selfless service goals to the community which she said will be the miracle that many seek in these difficult times.
The event was anchored by a multi-talented journalist, Lion Blessing Modupe Umebali who also led the National Anthem.
