National Insurance Conference 2022 Holds In July …As NIA Plans To Mark 50th Anniversary, Unveil NIA House
This year’s Insurance Industry Consultative Committee (IICC) International Conference scheduled for Abuja from July 3 to 5, will be hosted by the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA).
NIA is also planning to mark its 50th anniversary this year of which part of the activities for the anniversary will be the unveiling of the Association’s Corporate Headquarters, ‘The NIA House,’ on Saka Tinubu, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Disclosing these today at a media parley with the members of the National Association of Insurance and Pension Correspondents (NAIPCO), NIA Chairman, Mr. Ganiyu Musa, said the Deputy Chairperson of the Association, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, has been appointed Chairperson of the Organising Committee for the International Insurance Conference.
On the NIA House, he said, “The New NIA House is nearing completion and Building Committee chaired by Mrs. Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu has been saddled with the responsibility of organising the unveiling of the New NIA House. We also plan to use the occasion to mark the Association’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations.”
On Consolidated Insurance Bill 2020, Mr. Musa expressed optimism that the Bill will be passed soon, even as he said that the Association is on top of development on the Bill.
According to him, the Consolidated Insurance Bill 2020 is still receiving legislative attention in the National Assembly and the Association is on top of developments on it. We are optimistic that the Bill will be passed into law before long.
On the Finance Act 2021, which has already been signed into law, NIA boss who is also the Group Managing Director, Cornerstone Insurance Plc, noted that the law has resolved a major issue regarding the definition of the components of minimum capital for insurance companies in Nigeria.
He said the Association is engaging the National Insurance Commission with a view to determining the next steps.
“We are happy to note that the Finance Act 2021 has been signed into law and this has resolved a major issue with regards to the definition of the components of minimum capital. The Association is engaging the National Insurance Commission with a view to determining the next steps,” he stated.
