NAICOM To Insurance Agents: ‘Reposition, Get Professionalized’
Members of the Association of Registered Insurance Agents of Nigerian (ARIAN) have been urged to reposition themselves in the industry and get professionalized towards career development just as they were advised to embrace professionalism to enable them to contribute significantly to the growth of the industry.
Speaking at the recent ARIAN Managers’ Training held at the Lagos State Chambers Of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) Conference and Exhibitions Centre, Alausa Ikeja, Lagos, the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer, National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olorundare Sunday Thomas, ably represented at the occasion by Deputy Commissioner Technical, Abubakar Sabi’u Bello, emphasized importance of Insurance Agents towards the development of the industry in the genealogy of insurance business in Nigeria.
He implored the agents to reposition themselves in the industry and get professionalized towards career development.
Taking the Agents through the training, Ashish Mishra spoke not just on recruitment, but also on the importance of retaining the agents, which he noted is the only way the business can flourish.
In her presentation, Rector, College of Insurance and Financial Management (CIFM) Dr. Yeside Abiodun, gave insight on the various stages of examination, starting from the CIIN proficiency examination and diet, adding that agents need to up skill and be professional through the examinations.
The Managing Director, Mutual Benefits Assurance Life, Ademola Ifagbayi, spoke on the career path, narrating how he started as an agent in the early 90s, but today he is a Managing Director.
He encouraged managers to build a career in the industry and stop selling just for commission.
The two terms former President of ARIAN, Gbadebo Olamerun, spoke on the benefits of being a registered member and emphasized that ARIAN is ready to support any agent who is registered to develop and deliver in their respective company provided they are ready to grow.
He expressed happiness over the success of the training and promised that next year the executive will focus their training more on agents, adding that the process was designed to be a continuous process so that in time to come, the role of the agent in the industry will be more valuable and help in improving the growth of insurance in the country, whilst deepening the penetration as well as contribute to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The training which was referred to as training the trainers was themed: “Exponential Growth in the Insurance Business in our Present Economy.”
The training platform was designed to get agents to be knowledgeable about the working of the industry and as well make them understand the rudiment of professionalism in the business.
